Bobby Shore
I've just started a feature shooting on the HDX 900, and for reasons that are too annoying to get into, I may have to switch to the F900R for 5 days, then back to the HDX. I was planning on shooting the HDX in 23.98 720P, but is there anything I should reconsider if I'll be using the F900R for part of the shoot (which to my understanding is native 1080P)... the tech. guy at the camera rental house seemed very concerned about shooting the two and having them match given the difference in recording, but my take is that it'll be somewhat like shooting Fuji and Kodak in the same project (none of the footage from the two cameras will ever be intercut in the same scene, so I'm not too worried). Besides the added cost in post with the F900R, what's the best way to shoot with this camera so that the look of the footage (strictly from a recording standpoint) will match. If any of this doen't make sense, it's cause I'm still new to HD. Thanks. Bobby Shore LA/Montreal

Bobby Shore
hey mitch, thanks for reply... can you tell me how it will help in post to shoot 1080 on both cameras? it looks like I'll be able to shoot the entire feature on the HDX, which will be nice. The reason I wanted to shoot 720P was for the movement, how will that differ in shooting 1080? Thanks alot man. Bobby Shore LA/Montreal DP
Mitch Gross
The reason to shoot 1080 in both cameras is because otherwise you'd have to change one in post to match the other, so it's better to do it in camera. It is better to go 1080 in this case because the HDX900 doesn't "just" uprez the 720p signal. It also uses pixel shift (the only pro-level camera to add this functionality) to get a slightly higher resolution out of the imager. There is the age old argument as to what has higher resolution - 720p v. 1080i - and how one defines resolution. In your case you were stuck with one camera that shot only in 1080 (the 900R) so it made sense to stay in the vertical res. But now that you're talking about shooting the whole project with the HDX, I'm personally partial to 720p the whole way. Mike Brennan may disagree.
