When choosing 23.98 fps on camera

Hello,

I'm in PAL country, I have a film I'm going to shoot on HD F900R on steadycam (all the time) and record sound on DAT.

I'm getting a picture for my steadycam monitor using the sdi output.

I need to get a composite picture also for my director monitor, which is conected through a video pal transmitor.

When choosing 24 fps on camera - it doesn't work.

When choosing 23.98 fps on camera - it works.

my quastion is what frame rate should the DAT run?

thanks,

Ariel.

Audio doesn't have frames so your audio recorder doesn't have an FPS setting, because 10 seconds of audio is 10 seconds of audio no matter what frame rate the camera is recording at.

Where you are seeing an FPS setting is for the timecode that the dat will record. It would be helpful to have the timecode of the DAT match the timecode of the video recorder. So if this link is possible, then the timecode of the dat should be set to the same frame rate as the VT recorder.

The reason why your directors monitor isn't working at 24 is that there is no composite 24 frame per second video format. When you switch to 23.98, the monitor "sees" it as good old fashioned NTSC.
