Personal postproduction station

Hi,

Nowdays every still photographer has some skills on photoshop. I thought maybe it is time for me to go that way. so...

What is the best software for a cinematographer to use as a personal post station?

I though about Discreet Combustion because of it´s ability to work with Lut´s and files like cineon or dpx.

I think it i could try to learn it as a color grader and basic composer.

Is it a good choice?

i wouldn´t want to waste my time learning software that will be useless later.

I´d love to hear your thoughts or (even better) experiences on this.

P.D: I know lustre is better, but it is out of my personal budget.

Combustion is just fine. It really doesn't matter what software you learn on- the interfaces change depending on what you're using, but the underlying theory and practice do not. I first learned color correction and compositing on Combustion, and now I do it in programs like Fusion, Shake, and Flame.
