How many cto gels (1/4,1/2) should i use on the windows to balance the light on a sunny day? cloudy day? Is there a rule of thumb that applies? Mike Lary Posted May 22, 2008 Share Posted May 22, 2008 It's best if you can get your hands on a color meter, then you can calculate the exact mired shift needed and use the appropriate level of CT. If you don't have a meter you can consult one of many manuals like the ASC Manual or 'Cinematography' by Malciewicz. They have charts with color temperature estimates for different times of day, then you can check the manufacturer's specs for the mired shift of each level of CT gel. You might also find the charts online somewhere, anywhere that talks about color temp in relation to photography or color management.
