Jed Shepherd
When using a motion control rig. Is it possible to import the camera move data into a 3d program to use for matchmoving?
Chris Millar
I know for sure its possible with the supertechno technodolly - most other systems will have some form of it also, it really makes the system that much useful, and if you're capable of building a rig that can be programmed in a 3D program pre-vis or at least keyframe type process then getting an output like you're wanting is probably trivial (although time consuming I'm sure ) Anyways with the technodolly both the programmed move and also the option of a real time output from the encoders (the data is translated into the the spatial/coordinate system of the camera also, which makes things easier) - even when you are running it in manual/free mode ... Its no longer matchmoving - it is the actual camera data Edited December 15, 2010 by Chris Millar
Jed Shepherd
Cool. I was just talking to someone about motion control rigs the other day and thought i might ask if the data could be retrieved.
Chris Millar
What is nice about some systems is that the initial move can be completely manual, or programmed and manually overridden (the head for instance) - and then the data taken from that pass and applied to further takes ... If you wanted to comp plates and one was tracking something unpredictable - animals, children, action sequences etc... - you'd run that pass first ...
