Kinoptik 5,7mm T2 or Zeiss 9,5mm T1,3 + Aspheron

Hi Thibaut,

Generally, the problem with the 5.7 Kinoptik is that optimum focus cannot be achieved in the same way as focus for the Zeiss 9.5mm. You cannot manually focus the 5.7 for close or far focus. Even though the lens is described as retrofocus, the lens can in fact be set for near or far optimum focus by adjusting the mount. If your subjects are, on average 10 to 15 ft away, the lens can be set to that distance. If, however, you want to shoot wide landscapes, there would need to be a slight adjustment on the mount distance.

So, because of these variations, the lens got the name as being not so sharp. When the lens is collimated/calibrated for the particular subject set-up it looks fine.

On the other hand, the Zeiss can be focussed by the focus barrel, and what you see will be what you get, even though wide focussing can be difficult.

As long as you have an optical tech make sure that the wide-angle attachment is set-up for your properly collimated/calibrated lens, things should look good.

Having said all that, the Zeiss does look sharper on the collimator.

Some people love the look of the Kinoptik, just to thoroughly confuse the hell out of you !!!

Cheers, Bernie
