James Steven Beverly
ARE there any video camera lenses out there , preferably older television lenses, which would be suitable for use on 35mm cameras. Since so many RED guys are driving the Lomo prices to the point of obscenity, are there any older TV lenses that would be as good, even superior to Lomo for a RED and cost less than vintage Lomos which us Commiecam guys need desperately? Premium Member John Sprung Posted May 1, 2011 Premium Member Share Posted May 1, 2011 There are two price/quality points. Recent high quality TV lenses were made for the 2/3" format. They're not cheap, and won't cover the 35mm frame without one of Abel's adapters, another $5K. I once had a 25 - 250 TV zoom that covered 35mm, but it was an old timer back in the 80's when I got it. I gave it away because I didn't have room to store it (Dave might still have it). Any lenses of that age (1950's - 70's) were made for standard def -- that one was for PAL -- so 576 interlaced lines was all it had to satisfy. They might have an interesting special soft look, but definitely not general purpose lenses. -- J.S.
