Getting Started: How to Land a Job as a Production Assistant

Hello all,

 

I was wondering if any one could give me some advice/personal stories of how you landed your first job and worked your way up. I'm aware that the industry is all about connections, and since I have none, that puts me in a bit of a bind. So, my question is this: how do I get a job as a production assistant...or assistant in general? I've been cruising job sites and researching the "how to's" and have really gotten nowhere. Can anyone give me some pointers/advice? Thank you!
