Mario C. Jackson
Hey guys I was wondering how hard is it to tap into the music video industry as a dp. Also how hard is it to get into? What do I have to do dp vidoe's for Coldplay, etc....

Premium Member Adam Frisch FSF Posted October 17, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted October 17, 2005 The film biz is hard - too many people want part of the 'sexy' industry. It's almost liek trying to be an actor. Prepare yourself for years of agony, suffering and a steady diet of instant noodles and sleeping on friends couches. I'm not going to sugarcoat it - that's the reality. But if you can do nothing else then what's 10 years? That said, music videos is still the best way in by far. That's were less experienced at least can get a shot at some low budget stuff. One can also go the shorts route (which is even less lucrative, if possible) and hold out for the first feature a couple of years/decades down the road. That's how pro's like David Mullen, ASC did it, I believe. It just takes dedication, passion and a certain personality.

Plus, if you screw up, you can call it an artistic decision. ;)

Julio Ibanez
Plus, if you screw up, you can call it an artistic decision. ;) Amen. :D John: Thanks for the links! Also, does anybody know how to look up director/DP/crew credits for music videos? IMDb is kinda limited on this front unless the videos have been released in some sort of anthology.
