  1. Heya, Upgrading my Bolex to super 16 is abit beyond my budget, so would it be possible to install a widescreen mask in the viewfinder that could enable one to frame for 1:78:1 and not 4:3. Comments would be appreciated.
  2. Hi, Apologies if this has been asked many if not several times before, by other people. I've just shot a test roll of 100ft 250D Fuji film on a Bolex RX-5 and i'm quite anxious to see the results. As the title suggests i'm wanting to know if there are any places that would offer cost effective rates for developing, processing and output to DV. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve
  3. Hi, Simple question, i'm new to super 8mm film making, having just bought a camera. How long is 50ft stock? Regards, Steven
  4. Hello out there, I'm shooting a short film in two weeks time and as the title suggests, i'm using two 2000w lights, which are going to be fitted with an RCD each, so that they can utilise the 13amp powersupply. Is this a 'safe' thing to do? Apologies for my lack of knowlege in this matter, but i'm hoping some people could shed some light on the matter. You comments are greatly appreciated. Regards, Steven
  5. Hi, I'm really having trouble deciding on what would be an ideal camera to purchase with the budget that I have. Being a film student i've very little money to spare and with my budget my options are down to: - Sony PD170p - Panasonic DVX100a - Sony FX1E I've procured a micro35 adaptor thanks to redrock micro; and my intention would be to utilise this system to shoot short films. I would be curious to hear peoples comments here. Regards, Steven
  6. Thanks David Mullen, however the reason why i'm asking this is because i've recently procured a micro35 adaptor from redrock micro, and as you may already know your going to lose a few stops of light, which therefore obligates us to lighting scenes. I was under the understanding that the canon XL-1S has a longer lens (88mm) compared the Panasonic AG-DVX100 meaning that material shot on this adaptor with the Canon would need more light compared to the latter. So my question is, will a camera with a longer focal length effect the volume of light passing from the adaptor into the camera lens? Would any thing to be gained aside from the 25p function and added resolution by purchasing the Panasonic DVX. Regards, Steve
  7. Hello, Ramdop, thanks for your insightful comments. The reasearch that I have carried out, seem to indicate that this is a camera tailored for drama peices. However would I expect much in the way of an improvement from upgrading from my canon XL-1S?
  8. Hi, everybody I'm looking into purchasing this particular camera for use in the production of independant projects. Could any body shed some light on whether or not the camera actually has a 'true' 25p function or is it a puesdo 25p facility much like the cineframe feature on the HDV Z1. Regards, Steven
  9. Hi, Thanks for your response; would any body know how to construct florescent lights for use in video productions, i.e. complete with stands, supports for the fixtures. Regards, Steven
  10. Hello everybody, I'm a second year student at the Northern Film School, and am currently looking for alternative methods for a student with little money, to create/build lights for independant projects outside film school. It has come to my attention that in the long term consistently borrowing lights from equipment loan firms, can be expensive. I would greatly appreciate any comments or contribuions in this matter for building lights from domestic parts. Regards, Steven
  11. Hi, I'm still confused as to what "Frame mode" does on the camera; Is it some psuedo 24p option of some sort? Regards, Steven
  12. Hi, Thanks for replying. I was hesitant upon utilising the 16:9 anamorphic facility, so i'm glad that, that much has been cleared up. I realise that the lens has same maximum focal length which is acceptable, however you also mentioned that you can attach a follow focus unit to the camera. Does this mean that you can aquire custom support rods and subsequently a mattebox to house onto the lens? I would appreciate it if you could point me in any directions. Regards, Steven
  13. What does the "Frame" mode on the Canon XL-1S do? The manual provides a very vague and ambigious description of this facility.
  14. Hello Everybody! This is my first post. I'm a film student aspiring to become a cinematographer, I possess a Canon XL-1S and in pre-production for a short film and i'm intent on usin the cameras manual settings more. I'm considering purchasing a 16x manual servo zoom lens; would this provide any additional benefits, that the current lens doesn't have? Furthermore, would shooting in 16:9 mode be advisible over 4:3 cropped into 16:9 in post? I'd appreciate your comments. Regards, Steven
