  1. It wasn't the resolution as much as the overall image lacking any motion artifacting and other "video" glitches. It was actually cleaner than most S16. If nobody told me, I'd assume it was 35mm. And this is with the stock lens. I have a shoot coming up with the HVX and a PS adaptor and we'll be doing a transfer. When the final results are in at the end of April, I'll post a report on it. For prices, I'd contact Postworks directly.

I would love to see some adpter footage blown up - even to 16.

If we can get a great image (on a transfer from HD with an adapter), then the playing field just got a little more level.

Please post what lenses you use.

  2. Hi there, I realize this is an older post but I am new here and this post is actually what brought me to the forum.

I loved this film and the camera work. Espesially how ballsy it was with shooting in different modes and in all light conditions. Very cool.

But what I really want more info on is the Camera rig holder. I would love to have one made, does anyone know who built these or where I could order something similar.

here is a pic from the DVD extras...

Not the greatest pic of it but it should give you an idea.

    thanks tons.

  3. David, I cannot speak for this show specifically so I should really just keep my mouth shut.

However, I've worked on some "reality" documentary shows and even written for them and believe me, the ARE scripted to a large degree.

  4. I think it's worth checking out the test shots using these adapters. There are plenty online. All the speculating and math aside, an image doesn't lie.

Each adapter delivers differently and much of this argment can be just a matter of taste.

As an aside, some of the new adapter's are not too dark. Look up some footage, some of it is impressive.

  5. Brian, good points. The problem is with the choice of adapter. It might be worth looking into this...

Dan's adapter (or so he says) cuts very little light and he also makes a FF add on that'll work.

His footage at http://www.holyzoo.com/content/mpic/ looks convincing.

But all said and done...man, if the SDX is on the table there is no choice. The image it delivers is far superior.

  6. Hi there,

I haven't had much luck with this but I hear it is possible. If you are looking to gain something other than a saved step in digitizing you are going to need to do some upgarding.

There is something called Andromeda that allows you to bypass the record to tape function and capture uncompressed footage to hard drive.

I believe that andromida costs around 3000usd.

    good luck.

  7. Hi there,

I've been using a 35 adapter with nikon SLR glass. It really depends on the adapter but they all cut some light. The best I've seen (guerilla35) only seem to cut about one stop. Mine, on the other hand, cuts about three stops and is a lighting nightmare for inside shots.

As far a follow focus' are concerned. There isn't a lot of options yet, but they are coming. The folks over at indifocus.com have promised a version of their FF that will work with an adapter and nikon lenses. and the Cimtech crew also have one in the works.

And as a general note on these adapters...they are essential. I can't shoot without them anymore.
