  1. thx, Rick. Always liking your input in the Super8 mag. I believe those Latino showcase shows have shorts, and at very small lengths. I'll sort it out.
  2. Hey, gang Haven't been here for a while. Took a hiatus from several projects.. Anyhow, is it possible? I'd like to submit something for Showtime's Latino Showcase or the HBO Showcase. I'd like to shoot on S8 as a challenge. It's about a retro-pop group from the 80's. I feel that the S8 grain would be appropriate and affect the story. I have 10K saved up. :)
  3. I think if Ridley Scott worked off an Oliver Stone scipt it'd be off the hook!
  4. the Canon 1014 XLS is a great camera for what it is, but it's a fixed toy for most cinematographers, meaning too limited. If it weren't for the fixed lens or cartridge capacity the Canon would win hands down, but yeah Beaulieu and Leicina are the top ones to be honest. depends on what type of work you're doing. more flexibility and style of choice with changeable lenses. just my 2 cents
  5. ez, brothers. much appreciated. Rick, enjoyed reading your articles this past issue on S82day. :)
  6. ok, so ive been wanting to do a series of classic western styled films for a samurai series, all japanese cast and dialogue. pre-pro is about 15% atm, storyboarding is going quite well. im thinking of shooting on Pro8mm's 63 - ASA 10 B&W rev (reformatted from 5263). will be going to japan in September  (still part of pre-pro). anyways, im not too familiar with optical effects, but how did they make/shoot the prints during the beginning for that video look?
  7. at least to the last setting :P
  8. Must have a lot of experience with this camera. Will fly you to Chicago for 1 (or 2-day) weekend shoots, all expenses paid. Have been asked to direct for several electronic record labels, so it's definitely a go. Private message me for further details. thx
  9. definitely. I'd put 1K as well. I think a good deal of 1K w/ discount should include 65 rolls! or are my ratios off/ exaggerated? :P

    Super Super 8

what about Extremely Super Duper Max'd-out Super 8? beautiful results, and gives your characters facelifts!
  11. hopefully i say a petition, pre-order fundraiser. those serious have to purchase at least 4 rolls! we mean business  it's all about the money and serious S8 shooters at all costs you cheap bastards!
  12. so when does Kodak's 50D come out? is Pro8mm the only stateside source atm for their own line?
  13. No offense to S8 innovators and their music videos, but you wouldn't get much inspiration from S8 music videos. Well...you have more stock options with S16 & + formats, but remember a good music video is about creativity and directorial choice imo. So, just watch current music videos, that's the logic. I don't know how else to explain it. Don't worry so much on exposure and the S8 color world. Focus on the art direction, and with that, there are PLENTY of music videos to get ideas from. your just deciding to work with a small format. my 2 cents.
  14. simply fantastic. is it just me or is my post half screen?
  15. music is a huge part for a sports ad like so, especially if its geared to youth. unless you're doing a downtempo samba beat where a guy is happy and juggling with the ball in the streets of Rio then music isn't so much a concern. but all there is a kid and a wall, nothing too exciting, musical elements will improve the music. that's just my directorial choice and opinion, and i do love futbol!
  16. it's still great work to keep on your reel. i recommend music toward the European market & late night spots from sports networks. music; something like fast 160+bpm drum'n'bass or breakbeat...a fast tempo would really make the whole commercial stand out. the brits, aussies, japanese, & euro's are really into that style of music for their sports commercial, and simply because that style started overseas. i could help you with sound effects, for example certain clashes & snares whenever the kid hits the ball. i do sound work & am a general music producer. little elements like so add more excitement. good luck gee-nious! ;)
  17. logical progression of formats? :P always thought it was great (w/ music videos) how you can cheat it out without using a crystal lock if you're doing high energy quick cuts. i guess that's a given.
  18. Really like the creative concept. Are the reflections off the wall from the HMIs when the kid is introduced starring at the wall? I guess if the viewer were to see those two spots they couldn't tell the difference from regular lights within the alley. the 2 point set up is somewhat noticeable. I think its overdone with the final graphix since your audience will get the point. With him walking out of the frame would be good enough, and then add "adidas" text at the bottom or some slogan of some sort. love the work nonetheless!
  19. I'd still like to try the S8 HD. Thing is, you'd still want a reliable master if you're going to do a serious project, and its been advised to have digiBeta over a DV tape any day. If I'm going to work with 30min off a an S8 HD file from Bono, I'm going to need a big hard drive, and in fact several if I plan to continue using S8 HD, just for master storage purposes. Either that or just end up paying for an extra master layoff to digiBeta and keep that baby on lock! We all know how easy it is to lose data off hard drives, and so there goes your master from Bono! What I'll end up doing is just getting the Lecias, have an extra digiBeta master (for the closet), work with the huge uncompressed file, publish it & finalize, and then get rid of the huge uncompressed file. I'll still have the digiBeta master as a mate owns a deck. Or who knows, I'll probably have to invest on many hard drives if that's the route... but then again what else is new. I'm also a music producer, and I already have 4 external drives plus two internal. i dont know. we'll see.
  20. I like the interior compositions from this piece. click for download - "The Poetry Man"
