  1. A few days ago I asked how film ASA/ISO numbers are assigned. I don't think I was as clear as I could have been, sorry. I was wondering, and am assuming that equations are used on results obtained from certain tests (if I am wrong, please correct me), what equations are used and what tests are conducted to find the film speed. How is the number 500 arrived at, versus the number 50? I haven't been able to find this out anywhere. Thanks!
  2. I have been wondering how they find out ASA numbers for quite some time. The only information I can find refers to me a rather expensive ISO publication (5800:1987). I was wondering if anyone (perhaps Mr. Pytlak) can explain to me in the processes that are gone through to get an ASA/ISO number. Thanks.
  3. I am wondering what stocks Kaminski used on "Schindler's List". I don't know whether he used Plux X, Tri X, or both. Did he also use some color stock to get the tints on specific characters? What lenses did he use to shoot it, and, also, what filters did he use? Thanks.
  4. Yeah, there are three programs called pCine, pCam, and Eubank's Log. They are pretty great. You can download them at www.davideubank.com . Hope this helps!
  5. It seems to me that when new cameras are announced, the companies are touting the resolution. To me, that is not the main issue in what gives video a video look. The latitude seems to be the largest difference between video and film, yet I rarely hear companies addressing that. I know that they are working on it, and they tout the resolution because it is a good marketing strategy, but I haven't noticed much progress in the latitude of HD. I do not doubt that the people are working their hardest on it, but why is it taking so long? What makes the latitude more difficult than other issues? How much longer do you think it will take until HD can compete with film on that level. Comparing the latitudes, HD and miniDV and the others do not seem to have that much of a difference. I'd like to get your predictions on when video latitude and gamma will compete with film, and what makes it such a difficult goal to achieve.
  6. Yeah, I would love to see some Vision2 daylight stuff come out.
  7. Hi, I've been reading for a while, but this is my first time posting. I've been a loader for about a year. I have heard that every new person starting out gets one or two mistakes where they are allowed as under the label or "learning". I am always made nervous when I hear horror stories about ACing gone bad. I have heard that the only way for a career to end (in loading) is if you expose a roll of film. I have heard stories about loading messing up part of the image, such as one story I heard about a loader with a florescent wristwatch, but still leaving it usable. Could scratches cause a loader to lose his career? I have heard that two minutes of scratched film would not even cost a loader the job that he is doing at the time. I'm trying to sort all of this information out, and see what jeopardizes a career and what is just considered "bad" or "careless". Also, to change topic abruptly, I plan to keep posting here, so its a pleasure to meet all of you. Thanks.
