  1. Im currently on my second feature length show as a camera P.A. and while i am confident in what i know for my experience thus far, there is still so much more to know. I come in every morning and watch the 1st build the camera, and while i know alot of the parts needed to get everything fully operational, i dont know ALL the names of all these small parts, all the cables like ZLP's with Lemo heads (?) and just everything on the camera. Is there a source out there (besides the Panavision school) that i can tap to beef up my knowledge of these minute yet important parts?

    Thanks in advance, camera gods.

    Hello Scott

I found some information and user´s manual about panavision in

    bye

  2. Hi All,

Looking for some help choosing a camera and lenses for an upcoming short I will be shooting. I would like to shoot HDV 24p. I've used the DVX100 for a project before (not HD i know) with its standard lens. I would like to get a set of primes for whatever camera I end up using so that I can get a good shallow DOF so i'll need some ideas on a lens package as well as the type of mount/converter that i'll need to be able to use them.

Affordability is a bit of an issue since I have about $1700 for my total camera and lighting package.

The script calls for some night exteriors as well as interiors and some car shots with dialogue.

Thanks in advace for any replies. Let me know if there is any more info that you might need.

    cheers

    Hi,

P+s Technik has the minipro 35 for hdv cameras, if you have enough budget

  3. Hello, I need to capture a flower blossoming over the course of 12 hours with the F900. Has anybody ever used this camera for a similar interval shot, and have any advice for me? Thanks in advance.

    Hello jharrison,

I never used interval shot with the F-900, butI found this in a manual, enter in the maintenance menu, page 8 VTR setup page, 1 frame rec ,and turn to on.

When you press rec, the camera will rec only one frame, but all the tape must be record with Bars before use this intervalometer

I haven´t use this intervalometer, so please check it before the shooting day

please send me an email if it works or not

    bye

  4. Does anyone know if you can invert the image in the menu on a Sony F900?? If so, how?

    Thanks

    Hello Stedigui,

you can invert the image in the engineer´s menu, OPERATION, 10.LENS MENU and INVERT .

try it, I don´t know if your camera version allows it

    Bye,

  5. Ugh. The F 900 is so freakin heavy and then you add matt box and rods and down converter and two audio recievers and brick. We wieghed it and it's 36 pounds. I am shooting a seven week reality TV show that's 70 % hand held with lots of "MTV styled" zooms and dutched angles and all the rest. After two days I am ready to quit.

But I won't... The question is this: Does anyone know of a high tech gel pad that can be used on the shoulder to cushion the pressure this rig puts on the old shoulder? Something designed for handheld work.

I am currently using a thick gel cover for a bicycle seat. It works alright but has gotten permanetly smooshed down pretty thin. Not to mention it slides all over the place when I put the camera up. (And I don't even have a dedicated utility to help me with the camera 100% of the time.)

    Any suggestions out there?

    Thanks

    Hello Frank,

You will probably know this option:

you can use Arri´s Stativo for handheld in Hd Cams too,

that includes a shoulder pad and you will shoot easyly

there is a photo in the link bellow with an arricam Lt.

but you can use it too with F-900

  9. hello everybody,

I'm just starting to get into film making, i used all types of cameras, hd, dv whatever....but i'm new to film cameras, i work in music videos, and do commercial advertisement. What's a good camera that won't brake my bank (i'm not looking to spend more the 24 or 25 thousand at the moment) but still deliver good quality pics? everyone says that it's the film that has gotten better and the lenses but i'm scared to buy a 1980 somethin or 90 somethin camera that will look like it's from that era. Is there truth to it? I have heard great things about the A-minima being a great B camera but can it hold up to be my business' gold mine? I know that s16mm far surpasses any of the dinky hdv cameras or dv cameras i've owned but what camera will deliver satisfying results for me, it's gotta be decent speed and have crystal sync sound, and i can always try to rent lenses later. Thanx for any help everyone.

    Hello Nathan,

I think that A-minima is a risky option to invest 25 thousand

    there are pros and cons

It´s small like a handycam but fragile

the viewfinder is fixed but it can´t get exposed

the shutter is fixed(172,8 or 180 depends of the version)

there is intervalometer, aaton code to sinc sound, lightmeter...

you need special "cans of film" of 60 meters of Kodak( I don´t know if Fuji has), but can be use in daylight

The video assist is in B/N

and there are two different mounts: Pl Mounts and nikon ( and you can use cheaper nikkor lenses)

well, Ithink that it´s a risky choice with pros and cons

Sorry for my Spanglish and I hope being helpful

    Pablo
