  1. すごいね!! 日本語がわかりますか??

Ok since Guy is beginning to steam from under his collar and out his ears...My favourite super-8 book was one brought to me in 1984 or 85. It had a red cover and was my favourite book for years, but I can't remember the name. It was full of fantasy filmmaking info, it explained how several effects were done, mentioned that you can get away without fx like in "On the beach" or "THX 1136"....does anyone know what this book was? I'd love to buy a new copy. I remember a lot of the contents but not the title or authour.

  2. Super 8 feature Sleep Always is screening at The Camera Bar in Toronto on July 15 at 1pm. Admission is free. The Camera Bar is at 1028 Queen Street West (enter through Stephen Bulger Gallery).

We'll be screening off the DVD.

How come the DVD is so barebones? Everyone would have loved a "making of doc"...

  3. Well I did not agree with his points but it was nice seeing a divergence of opinion from my own. For the most part he really underestimated the SINGLE-8 format. A Fujica ZC1000 with a Zeiss 10-100 zoom would be simply amazing. I'm not a historian myself but I am a collector of Fujica Single-8 cameras with many in my collection. Hey some of them even work, ne?

I hope santo with come back to both forums and continue to defy complacency as he always has.

  4. I don't understand how Japanozoom can be seen as racist. Criticising a nation's technology in one area is not criticising their race, rather the direction they took with a certain type of product.

One forum I participated in gave me a warning because I explained that Saban was a jew. The warning came in the form of "we noticed your comment about jews, another thoughtless post and you will be banned". I too unsubscribed but not before telling the board regulars that the place was being run by retards. There seems to be a witch-hunt against racism that spots it everywhere, and I admit I find this disturbing. I could see a whole South Park episode stemming from that incident but anyway...I understand santo's decision, it's our loss that people decided to give him crap about his choice of words. The guy really pushed Super-8 beyond the level of home movies it was designed for and his posts will be missed at least by those of us who can see the hare in the briar patch.

Anyway my name is Hideki, so that should say my position on the "japanozoom" issue. has some weight..

    またね~

  5. What happened to Santo? He had some points early in the thread and now he's suddenly "unsibscribed"? Was this voluntarily? Or was he banned from here like on the unrealistic filmshooting/flamebait/slotcars.com forum?

  6. I watched this video in the theatre yesterday. Can't say I was happy with it. And I have no idea where the money went, the whole thing was essentially a cartoon.

I did NOT know it was a video or I would have waited for it to pop up on blockbastard. I knew something was wrong when I watched it and it looked fogged up and there was no real grain.

260 million? Where did the money go?

  7. I'm afraid I'm not an expert on filters! I've got a UV and a series of diopters -- I want to get a polariser..... - but don't know much about any others though unfortunately - sorry!

    Scot

Not a problem, I'm just getting a bit worried that I might not be able to buy it in time.

  8. I was just wondering, I am a high school student and am preparing to shoot a short on some Super 8 Tri-X and was curious if I apply, being a high school, for the kodak student discount. Any help is appreciated.

As far as I know you do, but the best way to find out is to call them. 1-800-621-FILM. Discount is pretty good and delivery is surprisingly fast. About 10 bucks for E64T. Only in America...

  9. So the Zapruder/slotcar/filmshooting forum was hit by a robot worm scanning the Web or did it get specifically targeted for destruction? It would be a shame if somebody bore enough ill will toward Andreas and the forum that they'd intentionally wreck it. Like it or not, it appears to be one of the most active film related boards on the Web. Not as good or as wide-ranging as Cinematography.com, of course :) but it serves its purpose.

I actually love the filmshooting/ebay/my-girlfriend-squeezed-out-another-monster/k40isdead/dwaynes-sucks-for-e64t/slotcars forum. I read this forum but I never post. I post often on the now defunct filmshooting/whowillmakeanewsuper8camera/singlelineNigelpost/Yalecensorship/slotcars forum. And again, I think Andreas has gone way too far, he just needed to upgrade the forum files, not shut it down completely.

To answer your question, yes it was a bot/worm that defaced the forum. If you do a search for phpbb defacer you'll find quite a few such worms were created.

  10. The problem with ordering from Wittner is that you will likely have great-grandchildren before you get a reply from them. I really think they went out of business and forgot to take down their website.

  11. He's right, Filmshooting is defunct! I thought he was just talking sour grapes, but he's not kidding! I tried to sign on a minute ago and got a message, "Down because the forum was hacked. Back Soon! Andreas"

I only hope he didn't get a virus from my work computer... :(

    Hi, Robert!

No, it's an exploitable bug in PhpBB that caused it. Awand did not bother to upgrade to the latest version of PhpBB so the filmshooting/nazibaiting/dutchpolitics/pervasiveparanoia/mexican-soap-opera/slotcars.com forum got hacked by a defacer worm. It searches for PhpBBs online and defaces them when it is a version lower than the current. I'm not sure why he didn't just get it right back up, all he needed was to get the latest upgrade and install. The forum was not really affected at the db level, just that index.php. It's still down...which is why I made this account here.

  12. Mine is 72mm

    Scot

    Hi Scot,

thanks for the tip, I think that sounds about right. I'm thinking of getting the series 9 filters...what do you think of that selection? Mostly I like filming nature and the seaside. I'll be using Kodak 7245 and 7248 until I run out. You have any recommendation on filters? I'm starting on 16mm, abandoning Super 8 due to the death of K40 for that format.

Thanks for any input from you guys.

  13. Thanks for your fantastic advices gentlemen! I blame myself for not asking you sooner; I didn't want to bid without advice first...ye know...glad I didn't now. Camera looked very nice and shiny but I wasn't sure about that lens either...:)

The question being, would you really pay that much for an item from a user with 0 feedback?

  14. I'm visiting America at the moment and would like to buy a few filters for my Eclair NPR while here. I didn't bring the camera with me, so I'd like to ask if anyone knows offhand the right size for the filter thread. I'd appreciate any help there as filters are a lot cheaper here than back home. In fact I would buy rawstock here cheaper than from Widescreen-centre or Wittner...if it weren't for the FoF (Fear of Fogging).

  15. I don't mean to be rude, but....I seriously doubt we are talking real dollars here. His $100,000 might be 100k nigerian pesos or something like that. I just have a hard time believing an investor would give 100k USD to a filmmaker who doesn't know how to make a film. My Eclair NPR cost me $450 from Rafcamera a year ago. It came without lenses, but still it's crystal synch. I bought a battery belt from Clive Tobin and it worked fine. It's rare that you'll find one that cheap but it happens. I also got an Auricon for about $100 on eBay. It had a dog-legged Angenieux 12-120 which easily fitted on the eclair. I think this isn't bad on a budget.

But $100,000? Get a Bolex, put a Tobin TXM-26B or similar if you really wanna go that cheap on equipment. That motor sells for about $600 while a Bolex can be found anytime on eBay. But I don't think you have that much money or you'd get decent gear to start with.

Maybe the post was a troll.
