  1. When I started out in films, you couldn´t get around a Steenbeck... just a few years later they litteraly vanished from the face of the earth... before they knew what hit them NLE systems were popping up everywhere FAST... this could be a repeat of that. If I were a major shareholder at Arri, Panavision or any other company basing it´s profit of 35mm aquisition/processing I would be a bit worried now (maybe even very worried). Filmmaking has been changin a lot through it´s history, the move to digital is inevitable, and probably imminent, and RED seems to be getting themselves into pole position.
  2. Direct link to filmclip: http://images.apple.com/movies/us/apple/fi...red20070414.mov
  3. There is a Quicktime film up on Apples website at http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/action/?movie=nab which describes the RED camera project and how it integrates with Final Cut 6. Look for the link on the bottom right. I have a feeling NAB will be a RED fest! (BTW: The price has NOT changed. The full FCP package is still 1300$..)
  4. Patrizio and Max, I guess my point is this: if you want to discuss RED marketing (which I would love to discuss), why not open a new thread discussing that, instead of hijacking exsiting ones. I agree that reduser.net is a forum with mostly yes men, and there is many good reasons why that is so, I am not going to get into that here, but once one of you (or someone else) starts a thread on RED marketing I will attend!
  5. I think you´ve expressed your point about a 100 times already, make your own post instead of derailing yet another...
  6. Still not many details on specs, but its a whole range of things... http://red.com/pricelist.htm
  7. Why on earth would you do that? I, unlike you, don´t generalise. I make no claims one way or the other - I just point out that judging an entire group of people based on your assumptions from reading a slice of reduser.net is just not very scientific.
  8. GREAT analysis! Who are you to evaluate the technical/practical skills of roughly 1460 RED reservation holders?! (Whom you can´t possibly know) It is in arrogant and generalising claims like this that any useful discussion/dialogue is derailed every time. Just keep going, again and again...
  9. They have publicly shown 4K footage at several different occasions: Amsterdam, L.A. & New York, as well as closed screenings. They have WORKING prototypes that are beeing tested by DPs. They have also shown pictures of at least one such prototype. They have promised working hands on cameras for NAB, as well as more footage, and the testers will come forward... I do not call that "not really backing it up". There has been PLENTY "bashing" and "rude" comments on here. As a matter of fact almost every thread here has been derailed to some extent by "bashing" and "rude" comments. When RED starts shipping and hopefully makes a success, it will be very interesting to go see how those people will handle it...
  10. Firstly I don´t know how in depth you have interviewed the 1400 + people who hold reservations, but I have seen plenty talking about getting an EVF. (Then there is some who rather want a screen) Secondly, RED has (long ago) announced that they will provide an EVF at the time the camera is released, in line with their camera pricing - at what price, we will know in a few weeks.
  11. I feel pitty for whoever thinks a hundred men is a must to create a beautiful image, let alone those who think it is impossible for one man to operate a camera in certain circumstances.... (Everyone know you need at least five; one to load/clap, one to pull focus, one to operate, one to orchestrate the camera and the three other guys, and then one maestro to tell the four mentioned before what to do....) Filmmaking works on many levels my friend, some stunning images can be captured by one man alone, some require hundreds - I have yet to read any claims by RED that this is what they intend to change! Wake up!
  12. I am sure Arnold and Richter got some laughs when they started up in 1917 too...
  13. Nothing wrong with renting, in many cases it is preferred - if something goes wrong it´s the rental houses problem... then again there is nothing like owning stuff ;-) Although the initial price of the lens is reflected by it´s rental price.
  14. What on earth does this have to do with the RED camera?
  15. I can see that you have more insight into what any potential RED costumer is going to do with the camera than even the people at RED can possibly have... How nice it must be to judge 1500 filmmakers as easy as that... As for me I think more options is better, RED is a nice addition and if succesful it will make a mark in the filmmaking world, probably even in high budget Hollywood films.
  16. Agreed, let´s rest the discussion until RED starts shipping, or at least someone has their hands on it! For anyone else wanting to learn more (or argue more) use google and you will find where it´s at! This endless bickering gets noone nowhere... (FAST!)
  17. I am not suprised, great talent will always want to be on the edge of development.
  18. Actually I think many of them were doing just this, the DVX forum has just become the most active board on the net where the Red camera is discussed, that attracts people, not the fact that it started as a DVX forum. There is certainly a larger number of people on the DVX board whose expertise goes well beyond your average DVX.
  19. The later image is supposedly shot using the Red codec at a very heavy compression (100:1 was mentioned somewhere), to test how well it holds, I guess that could impact the colors as well.

    I've Found JJ!

Oh I have read most of the posts here for two months, I read all negative posts about Red images, specifications or the team with great interest as long as it is valid and just and not another rant... And I feel no need to be a cheerleader to anyone who has been posting here longer than me, but I am always receptive of useful feedback. It seems like some on here think that any positive remark on the Red camera, shots or anything associated with Red is beeing an uncritical, "cheerleader"... and that all people on DVX user in general is less smart/skilled than people on here. It´s also a great mistake to talk about cinematography.com posters as "us" and DVX users as "Them", I post on both, and I don´t fit either as "them" or "us", I have my own opinions. I don´t feel the need or urge to defend any post made by Jim Jannard, and I don´t give really care about details on bickering between JJ and some other user. I have been shooting film on and off for 10+ years, and I am ready to go digital as soon as digital is good enough, and I hope it is sooner than later, if Jim can pull it off, I am in. I think it´s been fun to follow the development of the Red camera since december, both the doubts, the cheers, the first images, the reports from NAB and IBC. I have enjoyed the sceptics as well as I have been able to share the enthusiasm of those who wait for this camera like kids waiting for candy... It´s been and continues to be a fun thing to follow. And so I think it´s annoying when people come trolling about it, bringing nothing new, just ranting about how people kiss JJ´s *ss and beeing his cheerleaders and such stupid comments. It´s just rude and unecessary and not constructive at all. I will stay away from responding to future trolling, and rather concentrate on the people who have valid input, be it negative or positive. Good night!

    I've Found JJ!

Richard I think you could spend your time a lot wiser doing something else than this endless hammering on RED and anyone remotely associated with it, no offense of course.
