    hi guys,

i am asking myself if its worth to upgrade from DVR 1.1.681 to 2.0

the price for this update is such high..... dont know if its worth.

i am using the si 2k mini (SN 401-01xx)with these great arri ultra16 lenses.

i really LOOOOOOOVE the setup, handling, workflow etc, but the noise makes me kind of sick!

if heard that the upgrade reduces the noise and gives more dynamic range. well...for my brain, its the sensor, not the software... or am i wrong???

i ve tried to install a demo version on my laptop, but it wont start DVR 2.0 (XP pro)- so i dont want to re-install anything on my very well working system (lenovo 220i)

would be great if someone give me a hint

    cheers,

    alex

  2. Baselight and Speedgrade have native support for SIV files.

The SIV files can be exported to CineformRAW (uncompressed or Coded) or DNG files using SiliconDVR.

If a client has not yet recorded their footage, I would suggest they record To Uncompressed QT which is now supported by the Cineform codec.

  3. Although not a requirement, I would recommend using SSD Media due to the high vibration environments. The SI-2K uses a large RAM buffer to allow for conditions where a drive cant keep up with recording for short durations, such as shock and vibe and will not drop these frames. If the buffer fills up, the recording will stop and the balance of images in memory will get written off to the drive.

Here is a Discovery Channel coverage of the 9x SI-2K 360 shoot by ParadiseFX (currently shooting StreetDancer 3D in London). They used 9 MBPro's I think with standard 2.5" HDD......

  4. Landon,

The CineformRAW codec enables you to edit real-time on-line on a Core 2 duo machine. This could even be a notebook. Yes, a notebook. This is because the decoder has the ability to extract a 1/4 res version of the image for preview and editing. Once you have completed you editing an color correction you output to full res 4:4:4 files. The same file operates as a proxy and full resolution digital negative. The workflow is really a major differentiator!

One of the exciting enhancement we made to the SI-2K system is the ability to do color grading using Iridas Speedgrade On-Set ($399). Grab an image from the camera, grade it and load the look into the camera. You will now see you footage shot live with the look applied. It also gets recorded as Metadata within the CinefromRAW files. When you play/edit the files the look can be applied, turned off completely and/or a new look applied. What can be simpler or more powerful?

  5. Any UK/EU demos planned? Would be good to see what you've all been up to... ;-)

Stuart. We are pushing for a new product launch for Nov 2. The demonstrations at HD Expo and the following day in Burbank will be for our new products (not the same product we launched at NAB).

Therefore, we have not yet scheduled a tour into UK/EU. Although, we have a few strategically placed systems in the region for beta testing.

Do you know Geoff Boyle? He was testing our camera on the set of Mutant Chronicles in the UK (just wrapped). I should ask if anyone from his team may be willing to do a demo during the next few weeks. We plan on having production untis (of our first new product) in mid-December. We may just have to wait till then to officially set up demos on that side of the Atlantic.

Currently, there are demos in Tel Aviv, Israel on Oct 30, Burbank, CA on Nov 2 and Shanghai, China on Nov 9.

PS. There will be a partnership announcement shortly with a company in Germany, which will give us another avenue for promoting and demonstrating the products. Stay tuned....

  6. Here are some photos of the Mini from Geoff Boyle on the set of Mutant Chronicles:

  7. Silicon Imaging will surely participate in a dedicated Forum and answer any inquiries that may be posted.

As Jason mentioned, we will be making several announcements at HD Expo. We will demonstrating and operating the new products in the Adobe booth (nice to have partners :D ).

We are also putting together some final arrangements to provide exclusive showings and hands-on time for the new products the day after the show (Friday Nov 3) at Abel CineTech in Burbank. If you are interested in scheduling a meeting with us, just drop me an email at ari@siliconimaging.com.
