  1. Hello, Thanks for the lens' background. Also, I do own the K35 primes, that is why I am looking into purchasing the zoom also. I am most interested in the lens performance. Is it sharp? Does it breath (acceptably?) Does is stay sharp when wide-open? (like the primes) I would again appreciate any advice from anyone who has used this lens in the past. Thanks! PS I am also interested to know if the zoom covers the 35mm still photography area. The primes do.
  2. Hello! I am looking into purchasing a Canon K35 macro zoom lens (25-120). Did anybody had a firsthand experience with this lens? Is it sharp enough for today's standards? Espcially when wide open? Is the macro good on this lens? How does it compare with the older Cooke 20-100, for example? (an old zoom but who is still more than acceptable today) Any info/advice on this particular lens would be greatly appreciated! All the best, Mike
  3. Hello! If I have a BNCR camera, can I use an adapter to fit PL lenses on my BNCR mount? The PL mount is smaller in diameter than the BNCR - 54mm versus 68mm - quite a significant difference. Can you build a PL-BNCR adapter? Is there anything to prevent it? Are there any already existing? I am not talking about a lens that has both mounts on it (I know some exists, and this proves the point). I am inquiring about a dedicated adaptor. Mike PS I do know that the reverse (BNCR-PL) is impossible.
  4. Thanks for the info! The wide-angle one is also manufactured by Arri, but it's newer? Or is it a different brand altogether... And how much should I expect to pay for them? Much appreciated! Mike
  5. Hi, These two eye-pieces both fit Arri 35mm cameras - 35BLs for sure, maybe 2Cs as well, I think. Is there any difference between them? The size difference is for sure very noticeable. Is one wide-angle or something? Is one an older model? What's basically different about them? If someone knows and has had experience with them, please let me know. Thank you! best, Mike
  6. Hi, Does anyone have any idea what lenses Robert Burks used to shoot "Vertigo"? Baltars, Cooke Speed Panchro?... Which kind? Any hint would be much appreciated. Also, on the DVD they say he used fog filters a few times, but to my eyes they didn't look like fog filters (most notable example when Kim Novak has Jimmy Steward follow her to Carlotta's grave, near a chapel's cemetery). They look more like diffusion or low contrast, but not fog filters. Although I might be mistaking, since Hitchcock himself states they were fog filters (in the Hitchcock-Truffaut book). Thanks! Mike
  7. So when converted they produce good results in 35mm format, that seems to be the conclusion?
  8. Oh so this was the 20x zoom on Barry Lyndon? Didn't know it was the Angenieux 12-240mm modified. Anyone else beside Kubrick :-) used this lens? Impressions? Optical quality when used for 35mm? How does it compare to the Angenieux 25-250mm genuine 35mm format lens? This one is pretty bad when is below T5.6 or so I would say. Sharpness etc. Thanks.
  9. Hello! Did anyone have experience with an Angenieux 24-480mm lens for 35mm format converted from the Angenieux 12-240mm for 16mm format? Does it hold up for the rigours of 35mm shooting? Thanks! Mike
  10. Hi, Do you run more risks mounting a 35mm ZOOM lens to a 35mm camera by way of a mount adapter (as supposed to a prime for example)? I am not talking about weight and support, obviously the zoom lens will be properly supported etc etc I am talking about zoom drift, lens displacement and so on. A prime is smaller and doesn't have moving elements, and generally doesn't take as much strain as a zoom lens, therefore mounting it with a mount adapter is safer I assume. But what about a zoom lens? People do this if they have no choice? Thanks! Mike PS Specifically, the zoom is in Bayonet mount and I will mount it on a BNCR camera by way of a Bayonet-to-BNCR adapter. The adapter is reasonably sturdy and in good condition. The lens is the Angenieux 12-240 converted to 25-500mm for 35mm format.
  11. Thanks so much for the tip Dominic. As it happens, I do have another circular polarizer, a Cokin 77mm wide angle which I use on my video camera. I tried the trick you told me and - while the colors do change a bit looking through the two filters as you rotate - they do not fade in/out. So The 4 1/2 filter is indeed circular. However, I tried it the other way (out of curiosity), looking through the 77mm to the 4 1/2 filter. As I rotate the 77mm, the 4 1/2 fades in completely and back again. So the Cokin is not circular, even though it says clearly on the ring "circular"... Thanks again for the advice, Mike
  12. Hello! I want to buy a Tiffen 4-1/2 circular polarizer filter. The seller insists that it is CIRCULAR not linear. I want circular. However, on the filter itself it only says Tiffen Professional 4-1/2 polarizer USA. it doesn't say circular nor linear. Is there any way to make sure the filter is indeed circular? Can it be tested? How can one tell? Thanks a lot for any advice. All the best, Mike
  13. One day might be enough to put your health at risk in that area. I'm not sure but definitely check out all the consequences before you and your crew go there.
  14. I was thinking about buying one of these two sets... A quick adice would be appreciated! All the best, Mike
  15. Hello! I have a quick question. Do the ultra-con and the low-con serve basically the same purpose? Or are they two different set of filters, each one used for a particular (and different) effect than the other one? Now, I know that the Ultra-con filters do not flare, as opposed to the Low-con. Is this the only difference? Other than that, would I be safe to assume they have almost exactly the same effect? Thank you! Mike
