  1. Does anyone know where I can rent a couple 3 CCD miniDV or ProDV cameras? I'm near NYC so any places in that area would be good.
  2. I was wondering, has anyone ever tried shooting stop motion movies with a 35mm still camera? I can imagine it could get quite costly since there are 24 exp a roll and basically one second a roll. But theoreticaly since you have complete control over each frame it could potentially be the highest resolution and best every thing image wise in a motion picture. Has anyone tried this? What I plan to do is make the movie with my 35mm SLR and then get a Kodak picture disc then assemble each picture as a frame in Final Cut. Whatr do you think? Has anyone tried this?
  3. Thanks for the help. What you mean is I should get a reading of the light on the surface of my main focus and adjust within a F-Stop give or take?
  4. Hi, I need help handling manual exposure. I've used it before on my 16mm little Kodak, but that had a chart on it telling me what to shoot at when it's this kind of light and at this certain frame rate. And I've always shot with auto exposure with my Canon because the light is balanced so perfectly. But that Canon was silent and my sound Nizo which I'm going to use on my next project is not quite as good with auto exposure. I'm aware of why the Canon is better with auto exposure and I'm also aware that negative stock particularly Pro8mm negative stock is not ideal for auto exposure. So if anyone could guide me through what I need to know for manual exposure that'd be great. I'm going to shoot at 24fps and the Nizo is a 3056.
  5. Hi, my primary question is using the manual exposure. I've never used manual for any Super 8 camera because before this I've always used Canon's in the XL series which seems to have flawless auto exposure, so I've never had a need to use manual. Anyway, the Nizo sems to have a much more sesitive auto exposure making manual my only choice, can anyone help or explain how I use this to calcualte on the light meter?
  6. Hi, just curious as how to superimpose digitally. Is it something that can be done on Final Cut? Because I have Pro HD and Express 2. I imagine it's something like one shot with a green screen and the other would be the background you want or whatever.
  7. Hi, I'm looking to get into superimposing. Can anyone fill me in on what I need to know? I have plenty of experience superimposing in still photography but I'm obviously not depending on that. Has anyone here had and experience with movie film superimposing? If it helps the kind of stuff I'm trying to do is for use of the shots that Alfred Hitchcock would do. Is there any possibility of doing superimposing or is it a huge and expensive process? So if anyone could help me out it'd be much appreciated.
  8. So in other words unless I come across some actual 60's 70's Tube TV studio equipment, I'm going to pull it off. Could I come across any cameras like that on ebay? Or too far fetched?
  9. Intersting, so is there a way to create that effect? The look of those 60's and 70's shows? Or would I have to get a hold of a tube based camera?
  10. Hi, I'm trying to find out what kind of video was used for many taped shows in the 60's and 70's. Here's the analog video I know of: VHS VHS-C Beta Max 8mm The tpe I'm referring to I've heard called 2 inch tape, this lead me to think that perhaps it was some kind of reel to reel video. I'm also assuming the equipment is huge and probably expensive should I be able to get a hold of it. If that's true is there any other kind of tape that produces the same kind of image as this format that's affordable? I know this type of video was used for studio shots in Monty Python as well as the format shot for Led Zeppelin's Performance in Earl's Court, if that rings a bell for anyone. Thanks, Ernie

    NYC Rentals

    Thanks for the info :)
  12. I'm guessing from the lack of responses, no one here works with release prints. What do you do when you're submitting to a few festivals and more than one requires a print of the movie versus a telecined DV tape or DVD?

    NYC Rentals

Hiya, where's the best place to rent 35mm cameras in the NYC area? And what's the best camera, just looking for a reasonably low noise camera that shoots at 24fps.
  14. Interesting, thanks for the info.
  15. Hi, looking for expired super 8 and or 16mm film. It doesn't matter how old it is, as long as it's sealed in the box. The project I'm working on does not call for the best color or contrast quality, so I'm just looking to get my hands on some cheap wholesale lot of old film. It can be any type, tri-x, plus-x, kodachrome, whatever, it could even be nonkodak film like Agfa or GAF. Got film you're uncertain about, just throw it at me. As long as it's been in resonable conditions, I'll probably be interested. Send me a PM if you have what I'm looking for. P.S. negative film is welcome too, if it's cheap

    Release Prints

Where can I make a release print of say something from Super8 or DV onto 16mm? And or with an optical soundtrack? And or with color. I know one place but a dollar a foot for a 90 minute movie is just not happening. There must be a realistic way to do it. I've seen release prints go out on festivals like a common thing I can't imagine they're all paying that much. I mean a 90 minute movie at a dollar a foot comes out to somewhere around $3,600.00. So is there a more cost efficient way and or service that offers it?
  17. Yeah, so what's the deal? Was this a short lived idea by Kodak? Are there magnetc sound projectors out there?Or cameras for that matter? I found a roll ofmagnetic sound 16mm film here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...me=STRK:MEWA:IT
  18. Thanks for the help. And I didn't think they'd be at around 1,000 just thought I'd ask if there were some kind of 35mm camera equa to an instamatic. But then again you never know if you can something in working condtion for really cheap at Flea Markets. Once in Chelsea I saw a nice print of The Pink Panther on 35mm, good color the guy wanted $10 bucks a reel! That's around $60 for the whole thing! Can you believe it! It was in such good condition too! Too bad I was broke at the time :( And it wouldn't have been easy to lug those reels on the subway. Anyway thanks or the help.
  19. Hi, I've been shooting Super 8 for about 10 years now and 16mm only seriously for about a year. I was interested in getting into 35mm but I have a few questions: 1) Projectors: Are there any consumer size projectors for say 400 ft capacity that type of thing or just those huge monstrosities you see in movie theatre projection rooms. 2) Cameras, I can't imagine a whole lot of people own 35mm cameras, I picture it more being a bigger renting industry. Am I right in saying that? Or are there afforadable (ant where from $50-$1000) 35mm movie cameras out there. 3) What is the soundtrack technology for release prints? It was optical and still is for certain projects I suppose but it can't be the same as on 16mm can it? I mean like new movies in DTS etc, there has to more than two tracks. I guess alot of what I'm trying to learn is how differnt of a business is this compared to Super 8 and 16mm. I know how much more the film stock costs, and I've seen cameras and projectors before, are many people in the 35mm world people that work with this stuff and simply have access to it or is there a lower end of 35mm technology affordable for all of us? Any insight would be much apreciated. Regards, Ernie
  20. Hi does anyone know of any places that will blow up and or reduce to 16mm with or with out sound? Can anyone send some links? I know B&W factory does it but who else? Regards, Ernie
  21. Actually it'd be better if I had 2 100' reels instead of 2 50' reels. Thanks, Ernie
  22. Hi I'm looking for the following in 16mm: 2 2400' film cans 1 1200' film can 1 1200' reel 2 50' reels Splicing Tape (Single and or double sprocketed) Leader (Single and or double sprocketed) If you have any of this stuff then contact me though any of the means provided. Regards, Ernie
  23. Hi, I was at the local flea market and stumbled across this camera, Ciné Kodak Magazine 16, before looking at the name I thought it was a standard 8 camera. I got it for 10 bucks and seems to be in working order. After looking at the name Ciné Kodak Magazine 16 I brought in the argument that it could be a 16mm camera but it looked way too small. Sure enough I opened the camera, it was a 16mm magazine. But it looks so small like 50ft. The casing of the magazine is metal and the inside has a patent from 1937 and this link http://www.movie-camera.com/kodake.html says that it was introduced in 1945. My one problem with the camera are the magazines! I'm not worried about expirations I've handled some old film before getting an image not great but it's there. I've seen the magazines on ebay before every now and then, but who knows what their condition has been and besides there can't be enough out there to last me too long, this seems like one of Kodak's failed projects. Which brings me to my question, does anyone know if I could turn this magazine into a reloadable magazine? Or does anyone have one of these or shot with one like to tell me anything else? I'td be great If I could find a way to still use because it has a pretty good lens, and even 16, 24, and 64 fps! not bad for 10 bucks. Regards, Ernie

    DVC PRO

Hi, thanks for the help. After hearing this, I think I'm content with what have as far as Digital Equpiment goes. Ernie

    DVC PRO

Hi, I'm more of a Super/Standard 8 filmmaker. I haven't had much experience with DV. So I do have a couple questions: 1) What is DVC PRO? I've only used the regular consumer DVC tapes that you can pick up at any CVS etc. Is a higher grade? Will it work on my camera? I own a JVC GR-DVL510. 2)What kind of digital film did they use for movies like Colateral and 28 Days Later? I know my camera is definately not at that level but just for kicks what was their set up? Regards, Ernie Zahn
