  1. Hi Michael,

Richard has ambitions to shoot & complete the first RED feature, using crew from this forum that might have problems buying a camera in their own name.

    Stephen

And if JJ sees his threat through, then Richard will surely have more than enough "crew accomplice" to wrap his Red picture :D

  2. Hi Richard,

Are you pleased with what you see, since your a now a reservation holder?

    Stephen

LOL. Stephen, pls give Richard a break. He's now the unofficial Red's spokesperson on this website.

  3. Honestly, guys, I think the best thing to do about these very unproductive diatribes and exchanges is do what David Mullen advised... ignore the damn posts! You know when someone is trolling. You can tell when they really don't want to interact, but confront. Please don't feed their narcissistic goals. This forum is bigger than any one ##@@#hole! That's as far as I'm willing to take this. Behave yourselves.

  4. For the few who actually make a living off film and video who are into RED I haven't a problem. These are folks who would actualy use the camera to make a living although as I said, your buying a sensor and have to find a whole bunch of things ot attach to it to finally get it to record, not my favotie pick up and go senario, but if these folks think they need 4k, then great I wish them luck.

No, I'm referring to what I call REDheads, amatuer/hobbiests who are teh core of hte free marketing that has made RED a name. These are those that can't afford RED and wouldn't have a need for it and frankly any camera really. And as for the site, a few good threads and posts but mostly REDheads with such posts as:

"Guy I know this sounds trivial, but I need to wear this shirt to let people know, YES I HAVE THIS CAMERA AND WILL SHOOT YOUR PROJECT WITH IT.

When and where can we buy them?!"

"I second that! I don't have a camera (student poor and it's beyond my current skills) but I want to show my support for RED and what they are doing. A couple years down the road I want to use this camera."

"The guy even went as far as to say that the HVX was a failure because of it's small image sensor and P2 format which is slowly proving to be a non-reliable media. I realize that the XDCAM has better specs technically, but has anyone seen 24P XDCAM footage that looks as filmic as an HVX with 35mm adapters? If you have please link me to it!"

" Well that's all for now - I'm thrilled about the camera and Red's sudden and much needed entry into the world of cinematography."

Ha! You really do have time on your hands, don't you?

  5. So your saying there isnt huge chunks of data missing from 12x compression? what exactly are you saying happens to that missing data? and how is it reconstituted without copying from surviving information? how would that stand on fast moving action or even slow moving? Please explain?

Unless you're looking for something that doesn't exist, I would summit that David Mullen's report pretty much answered your questions and more. I will take his word for it, if I were you and quit this line of thinking that will fetch you nor any of us for that matter, any gains.

  6. They haven't even delivered a camera yet and already have an amazing catalog of extras that is growing wih each day of NAB.
    • RED is developing a new Professional Pocket Camera (Mini Red)
    • RED is developing a new line of 4k displays
    • RED is developing a 4k projector
    • New Prime Lens set Priced at $19,975 (15mm f2.8, 25mm f1.9, 35mm f1.9, 50mm f1.9, 85mm f1.9)
    • New Zoom Lens (18-50mm) priced at $6500 Does not replace 18-85mm, but reservation holders can swap
    • Canon EOS lens mount
    • Canon FD lens mount Price $500
    • SuperGrip Presumably a variation upon the current handles available for the RedRail/Cage setups, including remote control of Canon EOS lens mount as well as...
    • Red Motor very little information about this,
    • RedArm reduced also re-included with LCD Screen for free
    • Magic Focus Assist - It's a waveform type display at the base of the screen/viewfinder, so for each column of pixels there's only a single point showing the level of sharpness for that column.

And most important, can I get a pair of Oakleys too with RED. Which reminds me, the single best place to buy Oakleys in NY is from street vendors who all hail from West Africa and speak enough English to say "Oakley, ten dollar" and who lay it all out on a towel on the street waiting for the police to come buy so they can snatch it up and run if need be. WIll that be how RED is mostly distributed too? :)

    Mr Graff,

With all due respect, it kinda makes you look a tad cheap, yourself, bashing the camera and its creators without any real basis besides a hate fuelled smear campaign. I just wonder if this is how we supposedly older and more experienced industry tradesmen should carry on. I do also think you're helping the quoted amatuers and wannabes and their cause by adding fuel to fire as it were. Please use a little briddled restrain.

  7. Certainly very interesting. Makes the government look like they spend money wisely.

How did the composer and production designer command more than the director??????

    Composer Clint Mansell

    $800,000

    Production designer Allan Cameron

    44 weeks

    $779,688

    Director Breck Eisner

    $750,000

Amazing information Richard. How can they keep justifying such spend when low to medium indie projects still struggle to convince investors to put their money in small projects? Its really amazing.
