  1. They are the ones the one you want is the 4 way female (523 T 3301 001)

    This one worked!

So for anyone else out there with the same problem in the future, here's my solution:

    1. I bought a Bescor battery with an XLR pin from B&H. It doesn't have to be that model, but it needs to have the wire with the XLR pin (see step 3)

    2. I ordered the Amphenol Tuchel 4-pin Connector (523 T 3301 001) from Mouser Electronics

    3. I removed the XLR pin from the battery

    4. With a lot of patience, a soldering iron, and some intuition, I installed the new Tuchel pin. The Tuchel connector has the four pins labeled "1" "2" "3" and "4" so it makes it a bit easier. Just remember 1 & 2 are negative and 3 & 4 are for the positive. Also, the Bescor battery's wires are labeled. I am sure a pro Electrical Engineer would look at my solder connections and laugh, but hey, it works!!

The nice thing about this particular Tuchel connector is that it screws on the Bolex EL and there is no fear of it falling off while shooting.

  2. Even is there was such an adaptor they are always a bad idea because they become long and unweildy, they extra moment that the length creates can put too much strain on the plug and damage it... better is to get a female tuchel plug and directly connect it to the battery cable - no need to be an electrical engineer, but use of a soldering iron is required

Boy, it took me quite a bit of searching on the internet to find these darn Tuchel thingamajiggies...

But I think I found an excellent source, so if another noob like me puts a search for the words Bolex, battery, pin, interface, power, wire, and Tuchel they can possibly be helped by this source: Mouser Electronics. The link goes to the catalog of Amphenol Tuchel connectors. (Amphenol=manufacter and Tuchel=type ?)

I think it is what is needed for the Bolex... :)

  3. The interface as you call it is a Tuchel or Binder plug which is common in Europe on camera's and sound equipment

Tuchel - hmmm, yes, I knew that name... But I just thought that Tuchel had more than 4 pins.

So, are there Tuchel to XLR adaptors? Or batteries with Tuchel pins/plugs?

    (back to Google ;) )

  4. Hi all,

I have a Bolex EL, and I am finding it a challenge to supply it with power.

At first, a friend of mine (who is an electrical engineer) created a battery for me. He took an inexpensive rectangular 12V battery and soldered two terminals. He also made a wire which attached to the two terminals of the battery on one side and to the camera on the other. Ok, this worked great. But, I left the battery unused for a long while and now it doesn't charge it anymore.

So, yesterday I went to B&H and I thought, what the heck, I ain't no EE, I'll spend $100 and buy one of the Bescor batteries with the XLR pin, the little belt case, the charger, etc. But, I forgot that the power interface of the Bolex EL, is not an XLR. So, my question is, what exactly is that interface called?

    post-2778-1181663148_thumb.jpg

I am thinking of removing the XLR pin from the new battery I bought, and putting the one that my friend had used in the first 'homemade' battery, which fit the 4-pin interface on the camera. Any advice?

Is there some sort of attachment that transforms the interface on the camera to an XLR one, so I don't have to mess with the battery?

    Thanks much for any help,

    Mitsos

  5. What is the sound base on this camera? I am unfamiliar with that?

I believe it gives you the ability to record sound directly on to the film (assuming you have that type of film). It is more of a collector's item. But then again, I am not a pro, and I have never used it...

  6. I put an Eclair ACL 2 up on Ebay a couple days ago.

If you have not bought a camera yet, it may be what you are looking for.

    It is item: 260113139571

I have a few thousand dollars to spend on a camera, would like a Bolex emb, or something like this that is upgradable to super 16, if your selling a cam please meail me Parravision@yahoo.com im currently searching ebay and other markets! Thanks.
  7. My roommate is getting the DVD soon and I can't wait to tackle this beast.

I know it's not a frequent opportunity but I think this film--at least for the first time--must be viewed on film, in a theater. A home theater with a TV and sofa, outside distractions, and a pause button would detract from the experience, me thinks...

It actually has two breaks built in...

  8. The weirdest thing is that they are using an active seller ID.

I just contacted the person behind the seller ID, but I used one of the other items they have for sale, and they had no clue about the camera being sold under their account!!!!

"I want to sell it for $ 1890 US" as well. It clearly reveals he has no clue as to how much this camera is worth.
  9. That "email me at this email address, because the 'Contact Buyer' mails do not get to me" should be a big red flag for any serious bidder...

I guess this is payback for me ratting out so many scammers. Someone has scammed my auction from back in April.

DO NOT BID ON THIS ARRIFLEX 16SR CAMERA.

They stole the pictures and description from my auction and relisted it. I notified eBay, so hopefully it will be taken down soon.

    TOTAL SCAM AUCTION

  10. Ok,

    here we go again...

In my post below, you can find the link to my original auction, which ended, and the buyer has already received his camera.

    Look here for the scammer:

However, the idiot left the pictures which are hosted on my website... So, as you can see I changed on of the pictures with a warning... :D

    Hi folks,

I am selling another ACL II:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=260001867947

I did have it up two weeks ago (item:7628976848) with a reserve, which was not reached hence there was no sale...

But apart from the above two items (both sold under my ebay name) if you see these pics under anyone else's listing that would be a scam...

Hoping I don't have to go through this again...

    Cheers,

    Mitsos

  11. Hello,

I have just put up for auction on Ebay an Eclair ACL II.

The listing can be found here.

I had put it up two weeks ago also, but the reserve price was not met and now I am relisting it. So, in case you think you saw it before, you are probably right, it is the same camera as the one you saw two weeks ago.

I have sold other ACLs in the past, on and off Ebay, and have references if you would like. The reason I am saying all this is because I know that there have been some scams in the past with cameras--some scammers have been stealing listings (pictures and details) and trying to sell cameras that they do not have... I just want to assure you that this is not the case.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask!

    Many greetings,

    Mitsos Triantopoulos

  12. Hello,

I have a brand new Elmo GS-1200 projector for sale.

It is still in the box with all its parts and manuals (even the AA batteries that came with it from the factory.)

I will probably use it one or twice to check that it still works (and take a look at my own few super-8 rolls; let's face it it's rare to be able to see your own super-8 films on such a nice projector) but I can take digital pics and send/post for anyone interested.

Let me know, PM or on this thread...

    Cheers,

    Mitsos

  13. OH MY GOD, THIS GUY IS BACK

That is the auction I reported on a few weeks ago, he is auctioning the same thing off again. Unbelievable.

    -Tim Carroll

For this one, it seems that they have hijacked an account. If you see, the seller's account has an 11(100%) positive feedback but it is all from transactions that took place in 2000. I bet someone has 'abandoned' their ebay account, and these scammers got hold of the password and are using the account for the scam...

  14. The other disturbing thing I have noticed in the movie camera section of ebay is all the zero feedback bidders who are running the price up on camera auctions. I have to believe many of them are scammers.

Yes, I think that it is these scammers who want to see the other bidders' bids, and by getting the highest bid they know that they can target ALL the other bidders for the bogus 2nd chance offers. Actually, someone from the Eclair mailing list emailed me and told me that the bidders in my auction had already received bogus 2nd chance offers for the Eclair! I started sending messages to every one of the bidders telling them that I had not made any 2nd Chance Offer. But, guess what? Ebay allows only a limited number of messages you can send to other members, so I could not notify all of my bidders...!

By the way, just for the record, the auction for my Eclair was won by someone with zero feedback but he is a legitimate buyer. He is, actually, the one person who came by my apartment to examine the camera.

Still no word from Ebay about the Eclair scammer...!

  15. PLEASE take the time to report this to ebay. (the suspected fraud, not the Victor thingie) They WILL at least take the auction down so some unknowing person does not get stung. Unfortunatly with free web mail accounts, it is hard to keep these folks away - but something like this may well be reportable ot the authorities.

Yes, I reported it to Ebay immediately, even before I posted here. And as it's early in the auction, I hope they will do something about it quickly. Their fake auction has gone up to $350, but the bidders IDs are kept secret so it could just be scam bids as well...

  16. Hello all,

I just wanted to alert everyone to a scam that is happening on Ebay.

Tim Carroll first noticed it in this post.

Some scammers "steal" the photos and descriptions from legitimate auctions. When the legit auctions end, then they recreate the auction using the photos and description from the original (legit) listing.

This just happened to me. I just finished selling an Eclair ACL last Saturday: see here. Now, today, just a few hours ago, some idiot put up this auction here. If anyone bids (doubtful, considering the zero feedback) and send money to this scamster they are not getting that camera, that's for sure, cause it's still sitting in my apartment...

That person is such an idiot that in the description they even put the link to my website where I had additional photos! I took that page down, of course...

As soon as I saw it I remembered Tim's post about that other camera, and I realized that it can't be a coincidence!
