  1. Went to Du Art during lunch break... Such nice guys on the first floor! They gave me two. Can't wait to test that EL now :)
  2. Thank you all for the posts. :D I will try Sam's suggestion first, which are the two local (NYC) labs I didn't try yesterday. I'll head over at my lunch break if I can sneak out. I think that's why it so difficult to find one 'for sale.' Once you have started shooting you have more of those cores/spools/reels than you need. Thanks for the links to Christy's and the one in Canada, guys. Mitsos
  3. Hello, I recently got a Bolex EL, and the other day I bought my first two rolls of film from Kodak to test it. Then I realized that I don't have a take-up spool. (This is the first time I will be shooting on 16mm, by the way.) So, I called Du-All (I am in New York City) and they quoted me $10 for a spool, which sounds like a lot. Or not? Then, after work today I went to Rafik, and they didn't have one either... Then I called another place, no luck either... Is it symptomatic of the state of 16mm that I am having a hard time finding something so elemental? Or is it just that it's such an elemental piece that it's unusual that my used Bolex came without it...? Or did I just call the wrong places? I guess once you start filming a lot you probably have tons of them plastic ones lying around... But when you start? I think I found someone selling them on eBay, but I just thought I'd ask the pros... :)
  4. Thank you! That's where my online 'research' (including this forum's past posts) was leading me, but I am glad to have your recommendation. It's my first 16mm camera/foray... Mitsos New York, NY
  5. Hello, I have a Bolex H16 EL which is in need of repairs. I got it as a gift so I would be willing to spend some money on it to get it up and running. Can you recommend a reliable store/technician for Bolex in the New York City area? Is there something I should look out for in particular? Any suggestion would be much appreciated, Mitsos
  6. Ok, let me ask another question then... I am thinking of spending the $500 to $600 Duall quoted to get the camera fixed and overhauled. Have other Bolex owners on this list had experience with Duall Cameras in NYC? Thank you, Mitsos
  7. Hello, I am a newbie in the 16mm world, and I have recently acquired a used Bolex EL camera which does not quite work, yet (I hope...) It has some rust and some disrt but I think that if I spent the money for an overhaul it could be a well functioning camera... I took it to Duall Camera in New York and they estimated it to be a $500-$600 job to fix the motor and overhaul the camera. You see, when they tried their EL battery with the camera, even though a red light in the back would light, the camera would not run. However, I have made the camera 'run' using the configuration described in the attached photo: I attach the positive wire of the battery to both the two right-side pins, and the negative wire, to both the left-side pins. The weird thing is that the camera starts running in the direction show with the arrow without me pressing on the power/start button in the front! Can anyone explain this? Does it make any sense? Is this 'regular'? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Mitsos
  8. Hello, I put up an Eclair ACL II on Ebay. If anyone is interested I would be more than glad to answer questions via this forum or directly via Ebay. Here's the link: Mitsos's Eclair Thank you, Mitsos PS. It is item #7519545784
  9. Hello, I have a lens which I want to determine the condition of by a professional before I send it to a friend to use it for a film project. It is an Angenieux 12-120 which will be used with an Eclair ACL II. Can someone recommend a trustworthy place in New York with a quick turnaround? Thanks much :) M
  10. Thank you all for the replies, so far I soldered two wires to the poles of a 12V battery and plugged them in to both the handle jack as well as the jack when you don't use the handle and the camera did not run. It has run in the past, so it is kind of baffling why it is "stuck" now, but until I get it unstuck I probably should not spend a lot on batteries... M. :(
  11. Actually, I think I figured it out, in case anyone who read this post is interested: I was told by Bernie (who used to work for Eclair in NY) that Eclairs, when shipped from the factory, always included a roll of film shot with the camera, as proof of their integrity... :) M
  12. Hello! I have a question which is about an Eclair ACL II camera, but it may actually apply to other cameras in general. This camera that I have came with two rolls of film, from the factory I believe, which are labeled "Fixite" and "Sein." From what I was told, this is some sort of calibration film that the factory used when they made the particular camera and they included it when they shipped it to the customer who bought it. Can anyone explain what exactly these two rolls are? Thank you, MT
  13. Hello all, I am selling an Eclair ACL II on Ebay: Item 3858359099 Eclair ACL II Package This belongs to a friend of mine who is a collector, and is in real great shape. I salivate profusely every time I look at it! There's a lot of info on the listing, but if you have any questions about it I would be happy to answer them. Mitsos
  14. Hello everyone, I am making my first foray into the real of 16mm filmmaking with a Bolex EBM that was generously offered to me by a friend. It does not have a battery, though. I looked around the internet and found the following two at http://www.cameraspro.com/cam13powchar.html 1200mAmps: $150.00 (N-C) 2200mAmps: $235.00 (M-H no memory!) They seem pricey to me... or not? I looked around in this forum but did not find any suggestions for creating your own. Would anyone have a suggestion? Cheers, Mitsos
