  1. Naturally, people who have invested a lot of money (and time) in ANY new technology are going to say it's the greatest thing since the bag they put sliced bread in. After all, that's what a "vested interest" actually means.

Apart from that, in a conservative industry like this one, there is always going to be a certain segment of the technical workforce-for-hire who will try to "talk up" their value to potential clients by emphasizing their forward-looking "can-do" RED credentials, real or imagined. (And flaming bored critics such as myself at every opportunity, to their own eventual detriment, but they will never understand that)

Then you have vast majority of everybody else, scraching their heads and muttering "Buggered if I know..." (Which is the purpose of the "Pinned" articles such as the one you have just read).

The RED seems to get mostly used in what used to be known as the "Industrial/Educational" segment of the market. The total number of RED-shot TV shows I've seen on Australian TV comes to precisely TWO plus a slack handful of ho-hum cinema release projects, with very ordinary-looking images. The amount of noise that gets made on REDUSER.net whenever something gets shot on a RED that more than 0.02% of the population is likely to actually see, says it all really.

The bottom line appears to be basically that while there's nothing particularly wrong with the RED One, there's nothing particularly right with it either. Yeah, if you study hard and read up on all the RED's little foibles, you can muddle through, but why should you? Why not just use something that everybody knows and understands?

I think your last sentance is going to be the running theme of my presentation Thank for the post.

  2. Hi, I'm a film student at RDC and am doing a research assignment on the RED. I have to spend 30 minutes teaching my fellow students about the RED.

What i'm looking for is some stories from People on the Pros and Cons of using the REDcam on during production, not post.

If any one could help i'd be very grateful.

  3. Maine's workshop is one of the best in the country.

But institutes like AFI, USC also have got some great cinematography programs though they are expensive.

Checking out European film schools wouldn't hurt coz some of the best cinematographers working in Hollywood hail from Europe.

All the best on your endeavours

    Brad

Just out of curiosity, you don't by any chance know the names of any of the european schools. Britain in particuler.
