Virtually everything you need to start lighting projects professionally without a truck. The only thing you might want to pick up is some c-stands. I slowly built this up over the years, it's configured to be compact, quite economical, reliable and well organized so no equipment is lost during a shoot. Entire grip & lighting package has been optimized to fit comfortably in a 4-door sedan car.

I received a couple of those giant 5600k CFL bulbs recently for free and they are rated >90 CRI, so I thought maybe I could use this for some small setups where a little extra daylight fill is needed and I'm out of lights. Does anyone know what sort of fixture/reflector design would provide maximum light output for a 150w E27 fluorescent bulb?
EDIT: I think this is what I’ve got: -
Full Canon 7D cinema style camera package. Fast primes set, CUSTOM HDMI > component battery plate w/converter chip w/7.2v and 5v out simultaneously!, Zacuto gear, marshall monitor, RedRock v2 follow focus kit, loads of camera batteries, AC adapter, camera cage w/top handle, shoulder support, mattebox, filtration, much more-everything you need to make movies like a 35mm camera (except the film :P )
For info on most of the package:
http://salil24.com/MISC_FILES/031611_hdslr_cam_package-salil.pdf
Note: Items under "Additional monitor options" not part of package. Also, sticks & hi-hat aren't included though I am selling them for an additional price.
The camera body, aks and lenses all fit in 2 well organized black storm cases (heavy duty cases that don't hurt your hands). Both cases are small enough to fit as carry-on luggage on an airplane (last time I checked).
All of the prime lenses except the 24mm have had their apertures de-clicked so they operate like CINEMA LENSES. I still have the parts to re-click them. Lenses are in very good condition.
I paid over $11,000 for all this but I'm asking only $7,600 (I need the $$ soon) for this well configured fully custom built package. E-mail offers to salil(at)salil24.com
I'm in Burbank, CA feel free to contact me to stop by and see this rig in action, it's a beauty! Willing to ship but I would much rather deal locally. Thanks for looking.

I moved to LA fairly recently (from Chicago) and I've been struggling to find decent work. All of this 5D non sense is getting to me. I do work as both a 1st and 2nd AC currently as well as 3D rig tech. Ready to travel the world. Being new to town, I'm not opposed to working as a loader or even a camera PA.

I've got some p-touch 3/4" black on white and black on clear. Many of them brand new (unopened) or slightly used that I'm looking to trade for some G+E and camera expendables. If anyone might be interested please e-mail me at salil(at)salil24.com ! Replace (at) with @
Here's what I'm looking for:
Black coroplast (20"x12" cuts or larger)
1" white gaffers tape
2" black matte paper tape
1" red paper tape
Full CTB (some 2'x3' cuts or small roll)
Quarter CTB (some 2'x3' cuts or small roll)
Heat Shield gel (medium/small cuts or small roll)
I'm also in the process of making some new t-marks so I'm looking for a little bit (about 15-25' of each color) of yellow, green, orange and pink 1" gaffers tape. Also could use a little sticky velcro.
Let me know if anyone wants to meet up! Again, I'm in Burbank, CA. Salil(at)Salil24.com Replace (at) with @

I'm looking to buy a used reasonably priced camera cart. If you have any leads, shoot me an e-mail: salil(at)salil24.com I'm in Burbank, CA. Thanks!

Any plans for an iPhone one? Slightly over sized or stretchy to accomodate different & future models and cases/skins would be great. "Rip offs'" case is nice but it's noisy velcro which isn't ideal for a film set.
-
Any thoughts on which is overall better? I'll be working in the LA area primarily. I'm looking for a senior sized cart and I like the idea of being able to remove the wheels for packing the cart into smaller vehicles if needed. Yaeger and Sons is out of my budget currently. Any thoughts or other cart suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Camwaves are a rehoused wifi-based system meant for transmitting a television signal through a wall or two in a house. IDX stuck them in a housing and charges way too much money for them.
Since an HD signal is not needed, I would probably want something like a canatrans. The problem will be powering it on a camera that, as far as I know, has no accessory power source.
If it's a 12v accessory, you could look into some of Switronix's offerings:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/559678-REG/Switronix_XP_DV_P20_XP_DV_P20_Adapter_cable_20.html
But you would of course need large Anton Bauer batteries that have 2 p-taps or a splitter.

I got mine from the Hilti store in Chicago. Ask if they have any demo units for sale.
Thanks, good idea.

I am a young camera assistant, I started freelancing as an AC not too long before Red came out. Most of the projects I have worked on have been shot digitally. I understand and am able to carryout the duties of a 1st and 2nd AC but I don't have an in depth knowledge of 16mm and 35mm camera systems that I wish to posses. I've been reading "The Professional Cameraman's Handbook", "The Camera Assistant-A Complete Professional Handbook" and the Arricam book by Jon Fauer but I haven't had much hands on experience with film camera systems. What is the best way of going about getting more hands on experience and understanding of these camera systems in this "digital age" we live in?
I'll be moving to LA in a little over a week, so I've been looking at UCLA's extension program workshop on Arriflex and Panavision Cameras:
https://www.uclaextension.edu/r/Course.aspx?Reg=W2759
Maine Media Workshops also has their camera assistant course which I've heard good things about:
http://www.mainemedia.edu/workshops/filmmaking/film-and-digital-camera-assistant
Any thoughts?

A guy I work for has some studio style fluorescent lights with a pipe clamp bolted to the yoke that he wants to mount to his c-stands. He used to have a t shaped piece of metal that had a baby pin and a pipe at a 90 degree angle to it. The light would clamp to this pipe while the baby pin end goes in a gobo head. Any ideas on how to mount these lights?

Hi Salil,
As far as I can tell through the basic research I've done, the biggest difference is that the PD-42 has an optical sight. That is a nice feature because in bright sunny days, it can be difficult to see the tiny red laser dot and get an accurate measurement. With the optical sight, you would be able to accurately target what you want to measure without having to see the laser dot.
When it comes to being a 1st AC/Focus Puller with the two, I don't know if it will make much of a difference. Besides that optical sight feature, they both have substantial ranges of measuring distance, a built in level, a graphic interface and a rugged housing.
If you are looking to add one to your toolkit, I might advise to get the PD-42 just because my philosophy is if I'm going to spend that much money on something I might as well get the best.
I do, however, have the PD-40 and it works great and I'm very happy with it. I think either the 40 or the 42 would be a good addition to your kit.
Hope that helps!
- Evan
Wow, good to know! I was for some reason under the impression that the PD-40 had optical sight, I almost bought one on eBay. I'll be picking up a PD-42 soon. Thanks for the insight Evan and John.

Hi everyone;
Does someone know how the equipment offered at indisystem works? I'm working in Uruguay teaching kind of an introduction to filmmaking. As we are not a film shchool, our budget for equipment is not very high. Besides, we have a 5D Mark II with a 100 mm 2.8 macro; a 70-200 mm 2.8 and a 24-70 mm 2.8. We also do have a basic range of lights (from arri 150 to 1k, plus a couple os kinoflos), chimera, flags...
What we mainly do is basic exercises on filmmaking ending with low budget short films. Everything is focused on learning, so we would like to add some tools but we don't have much money. It seems to me that what is offered at indisystem.com could work pretty well for this, but I'd very much appreciate some other opinions.
Thanks a lot.
It depends, I've heard decent things about their Pro slider. What sort of equipment are you looking for? There may be better cost effective solutions.

Any suggestions on where to live? I'm potentially moving from Chicago to LA soon. I have some gear (about about 20k worth) so I want to live in a fairly safe area but not break the bank on rent. I don't really care about swimming pools and stuff like that. Need to have parking and be close to potential film and video shooting areas.

Any one?

What are the differences between the Hilti PD-40 and PD-42 as far as a focus puller is concerned?
-
I dunno, when it comes to an AC pouch, for me, the smaller it is the better. That way I'm not overloading the pouch and putting all the weight in just one area on my belt. I prefer to have my tools distributed throughout my belt, so I have my tape measure, canned air, Leatherman and AC pouch evenly around my waist. I bend down and walk around too much to have an over the shoulder type pouch, so I need to have it secured to my waist.
i love the idea of the light inside, and the zipper option if I need to close it up tightly. I have a Cinebags AC pouch, and even that's getting too poofy & big for my needs. I need something thin and minimal like the Lindcraft brand. Anything else I would rather just throw in a runbag instead of having to have it on my person all day.
FYI: The Lindcraft Jumbo AC Pouch is basically the exact same thing as the cinebags pouch.
Setwear has some decent stuff. For minimalist check out Modular 51's small ac pouch. Only downside is if you're not in canada you have to pay import duties and they don't know how much that will be so after ordering there will be an additional unknown charge.
