  1. any1 has experience working in the 2.35 aspect ratio under s16mm? I know there is anamorphic for s16 and well of course it could be cropped for that aspect ratio as well and jsut shoot 1.85 and then crop (or 1.77) now the later option I think should be fine if going to video but in case of theatrical release it would be a huge loss in quiality. If any has experience in this area would be of great help. Thanks Miguel
  2. Hye you got some good stuff there. Now the thing is (I i got the same comment from some of my reel) is that your ool shows a lot of good single shots with a good mood and technique but it does not show your narrative skills (which i think is your objective) what I did was have my reel and plus that put clips or cut otgether a reel that would show a scene for example....dont know the formula really but thats my 5c on it.. O as well the music start good but then keeps pretty much the same and it makes it feel longer than what it is and goves the imagea certain mood which is good but as well think about it... Good job and best of all. Miguel Bunster www.mb-dp.com
  3. Hey, Just re-built my site with more than my showreel. Someone whose opinion I respect told me my reel looked great but didnt say much beside nice shots so i uploaded clips and things. If anyone can look at them and give me their opinion cinematography wise (and all the rest as well) it would be great. Thanks a lot! Miguel ps: the web page is www.mb-dp.com
  4. Looks really good. My question would be the lack of blacks? thats compression? or its the way it was intended to be shot? M
  5. thanks guys for the imput. I am cutting the mos again to the original spec idea.. PS:Malcom McDowell shots are from my AFI thesis. best Miguel

  8. well the video inline is a reference only.....the original one is rich and i am happy with it....black level is boosted up when compressed, detail went to hell etc....but if anyone wants to see a better version let me know it will just be a LOT bigger... The grainy shots was somethign I wanted if you see some are the same shot i just made a 50% or 80% zoom in telecine which i like a lot i gives a nice feeling to it but thats a choice only. Actually contrast of orignal shots is pretty high it just got flat here. Thanks for all the comments when I get a final cut i willupload it. well as well if any1 has the time there is my reel online on www.mb-dp.com two feature films I did are not there yet. Best Miguel
  9. Hi thanks for the replys! Well most was 24 fps but the water was 120 fps....and a shot fo her with warm curtains and desert outside was a mix of 40 fps and 33 etc...one shot was slow down to 70% (originally 24fps) and all expect exterios was insde a classroom lit mostly with 2k fire starter, 2 k fresnel midgets etc with diverse gels...the exposure ratios I dont remeber because it was lit by eye and then i jsut picked s pot i knew i wanted on a certain place in exposure and the rest was going to fall where i wanted it was 5279 process normally. I as well used a Canon rebel XT to see a visisual referene whic i sent to the lab. Thanks! Miguel

  15. Sorry I steated the question vague, more on the techincal side really about characteristics that identify the format/aspect ratio. If you wanted to describe cartain basic characteristics that are of a certain format. For example on 2.39 35mm anamorphic there is the horizontal flare, DOF is diferent horizontally than vertically, lenses that breath a lot tend to breath more in one axis becasue of the anamorphic compression, for example in Mamet Spartan, How highlights my render different in older lenses etc.. I understand it vague but any ideas or specific characteristics that are from a certain format that represents that format is what I am looking for...but well maybe there is not much just went over alot and wanted to hear other people opinions... Thanks Miguel And well of course people opinion of a movie representing masterfull use of 1.33, 1.78, 1.85, 2.39. Thanks Miguel
  16. Hi I am working on a little workshop and wanted to get some ideas. I have a clear idea for the formats properties regarding their relationship between aspect ratio and lenses an so on to DOF, Angle of view flare etc? For example anamorphic cinematography create a longer horizontal streak than spherical lenses and etc? I wanted to ask too See if I am missing something which I am sure is the case in your opinion about the basic characteristics of the following formats and aspects ratio (not film emulsions). These is a pretty deep and subjective question but ideally including artistic decisions. For example some people wouldn?t use anamorphic for a movie based on dialogue where the director wants a lot of two shots in medium body framing. Other would. Just want to hear your opinions on both subjects artistically and on the technical level. Well if you feel like it here are the ones? On 35mm: 1.33, 1.85, 2.39 (anamorphic and DI pull) 16mm 1.33, 1,78 DV and HD 16/9 And curios about a specific thing. If one was planing to make a 2.39 aspect ratio movie using DV ( I know quality would be bad) would you use in cheaper cameras the 16/9 mode or the 4/3 and crop more there? What would be your consideration on lenses considering whi wide angle you had to go? Well if any feels like taking the time I would deeply appreciate it. Thanks! Miguel

  23. sweet..je..I will check it out now. Thanks! Miguel
  24. thanks will check that out. I am looking for like desert wood type f scenes and car scenes. No my problem is that we are doing a chase which starts with cars and then the go on foot. The foot part is in control with backlight moonlight but the car part is complicated because of resources.SO I wan to play it really dark becasue hard to light big streches of land for a car chase. I thought of going no moon light for the cars and only moonlight for the foot chase...but well any opinions? How does anyone feel about always backlight moonlight no matter the angle? I done it and seen it and works for me but wanted to hear other people toughts. Thanks Miguel
  25. Tim, Thanks for the ideas I will look for them. Mainnly they are for a night scene where military people set them up in the streets. I will go with what I get and light accordingly to that color balance. Explained the director the diverse colors and he is on with it. I am shooting a lot of night/wood scene so thats a pretty good idea. Thanks! Miguel
