  1. The two sequences are actually quite different in execusion.

The "old school" Superbad intro sequence can easily be done using a green screen. Or you can even do a low budget version. The most important aspect is to be able to create contrast between your actors and the background. If you can create contrast - either by keying (green screen or other) or color correcting your way to a black actor on a white background.

Then you can either use the image as a matte (black and white) and apply the colors through the mattes. Or you can color correct your colors to achieve the colors you want. Depending on your software choice and the quality of your shoot material, one method may be easier - keying or color correcting.

The iPod spots are actually a little more advanced. Mostly in what information they use from the shoot. First of all, the iPod cord (and sometimes the actual iPod) can clearly be viewed. There was also areas within the actors that were "brought out" in the post process.. Contact shadows with the floor was also exposed at times. I assume that there was a high quality green screen shoot behind all this, with some serious time making sure the key elements really came out (clean bg, clean characters, and cord), and then roto mattes were probably animated to reveal the areas that were of additional interest. Well, that's how I would've approached it anyway.

What I love about the iPod spots is that they look so simple, yet have such a high level of finish revealing a real sense of creative detail and quality. While the Superbad intro is cool retro, the iPod spots are super cool modern.

    Best of luck.

thanks! :) i really admire the way those videos really came out

  2. What you should do first is cut the image background out in photoshop like the pics above and save it as a .psd file (final cut and photoshop work together.) when you import it to FC it should remain the same with no background. If that doesn't work put the image in FC and do a color key (video filters - key - color key) and key out the background color directly in FC. Play with the settings a bit to get it to look nice and you have what you need.

ah ok i think i get what you guys are saying, i did see the effect fc has but i didnt like it that much

  3. I DO HAVE A .GIF FILE EXACTLY THE SAME WITH THE RED DOT FROM RECORD BLINKING, BUT THE PROBLEM IM HAVING IS THAT WHEN PUTTING THE PICTURE IN FINAL CUT IT GETS IT AS A PICTURE AND IS NOT LETTING ME OVER LAP IT ON TOP OF THE VIDEO FOOTAGE...WELL THIS MAY BE BECAUSE I DONT KNOW HOW TO. BUT COOL CHROME EFFECT

SO I NEED HELP OVERLAPPING THE FILE INTO THE VIDEO FOOTAGE

  4. fortunately for you there already is this effect Effects-Video Filters-View finder , however if you don't like it, I chroma keyed your thing for you. it's attached. Try playing around with your software add a flicker to the record, brighten it, reduce the battery over time get creative.

MY QUESTION IS WHETHER IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE TO ADD THE RECORD AND BATTERY EFFECT I HAVE BELOW TO A SCENE WHICH I HAVE EDITED IN FINAL CUT?...THE ORANGE BACKGROUND IN THE IMAGE IS IN GIF AND CLEAR/SEE THROUGH...IF I NEED TO CHANGE IT NO WORRIES I HAVE PHOTOSHOP

PICTURE/EFFECT I WANT TO ADD IN THE SCENE

IF ITS POSSIBLE HOW CAN I DO IT? OR IS THERE A BETTER WAY??
