  1. The Rescuer got the files back.

    Which is so great!

    but....

    but he can't play them!

Can anyone give us a tip?!

    What to do?

We are so close to get our rushes back!

The Rescuer :) has them saved on his external disc.

I should give the cards back to the rentalhouse tomorrow, and they are going to be overwritten (I hate this)

ANyway. If someone has something to say I will be happy to get some advice

    regards

  2. Hi,

Very shallow DOF on a landscape, is not going to happen. Even on a person standing full screen, the background will never go very soft.

    Stephen

I'm not sure if I'm well understood. I mean focusing ona straw of grass, and having whole world out of focus. It is possible.

    i

  3. Iga, I've used it quite a bit on commercials, lifestyle -people stuff. The best thing about it for people is the 35 DoF it gives you.

It does eat up some light, so you should calculate an effective ISO with it on the camera. And it softens the video a bit, which I like for people. I'm not sure if I would bother with it for a shoot of landscapes and cityscapes, because you will probably be using wide lenses

and shallow DoF is not something you're after. maybe.

    - Peter.

    Peter

I see. But don't you think it would look great - very shallow DOF and wide lens? I want achieve more of an impression of the city and landscape, than going into just simply showing it....Unless there is a technical problem with using wide lenes with 35 mm adapter which I am not aware of.

    Iga

  4. Just to confirm, you did an import through XDCAM Transfer, but did not make a direct backup copy of the BPAV folder from the card somewhere else, correct?

    THanks for your responses....

    Michael Belanger

    Correct, unfortunately.

It was my first time with EX cameras, using cards. I wasn't aware I shoud direct backup of BPAV folders.

Now I know. Only it'skind of painful knowledge.

ANyway, I got back the cards, they are well in hands of some special file rescuer, who I hope will do his job right. ANd I hope this story will have a happy end.

WHat happened is that lost file was the one recorded on the moment of slot switching - so it's acutally divided into two cards -(is it what .smi file stands for?) and maybe that was the reson of loosing it.

  5. Hi there

I shot some footage with EX1 and after shooting transfered all files with xdcam transfer onto my computer. After transfering files I ereased

contents of the SxS cards through computer (using finder, and draging file foldersto trash) Emptied the trash.....

Few moments later I wanted to go trhough the rushes....and noticed that there is one file missing!!!!

It is crucial file for what I shot!

I'm very worried, and don't know what options do I have?

Is it possible to get that file somehow?

    How?

I must say the camera wasn't mine. I gave it back (and the cards as well) before I noticed anything was wrong.

I have no idea why it happened like that.

I guess I did everything right.

    Just a bad bad luck?

If anyone has a clue if there is a slightest chance to recover lost file please help.

    regards

  6. Hi

I just was helping a friend on the set, where he shot on F23 and pro35

    and I loved the image.

I have never had any expirience with pro35 before. And want to use it for an upcoming project I'm going to shoot myself. It will be landscapes, and images of cities as well. I desire that shallow DOF look.

I wander what is Your expirience with PRO35?

    Please share.

Is there anything one should be aware of?

What types of other adapters are there?

What lenses are best to use with.

Of course my project has limited budget so I will be searching for cheeper options.

    greetings

  8. I had learned, that for digital/high definition material, to strongly avoid using blue screen. Especially with a 3:1:1 color space/sampling, which I believe the F900R has. I believe this was proven with the film, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, which was shot on the F900. Blue is the noisiest channel in digital/high definition. Now if you went with the F950 to an HDCAM SR Deck I believe you'll give your self 4:4:4 color space/sampling but if that's even possible. :)

this is such an important information for me. thanx! I'm sure going with F950 and SR deck will double the costs. BUt I will try to force it in the production.

The background that they want to put in post is cartoon looking like waterfall or moving cartoon caracters (they havn't decided yet).

Does it really determine my lighting?

About backlighting - I don't want to kill the actress with it, just little smooth cutting of the background is something I thought about.

Thanks for all the replys so far.

    :)

  9. Hi all.

I'm not such an expirienced cinematographer as some of you so I decied to ask for help.

I'm about to shoot a short commercial on a blue screen. And production demands HD camera.

Maybe someone could help me out if i'm thinking the right way.

The shot will be very simple. It's just a character walking in the frame and talking.

    I'm totaly insecure about lighting.

I thougt I would use 3 spacelights for background

and chimera with dedo's for an actress

Thought also about backlighting with two 120s kinoflos.

Few words about the camera I'm thinking of choosing:

I thought I'd use HDC f900r camera with zoom fujinon lens Cine Style HAC13x4,5-m10B

I imagine it would work pretty good for what we need.

But I don't know if I should ask to go into menu of the camera and change anything on the set.

Or should I just balance it? Or go on preset?

BUt I'm not sure if it's enough, if it's good, if it would work?.If it's right direction to go?

Ofcourse I will get to know while I'm on the set.

But if anyone could comment I'd aprreaciate it.

    thanks and greetings

  10. Hi all!

I'm approaching shooting where I need to create concert atmosphere in a club for 400 people.

I wander if anyone could give me tips on what I should be aware of.

    I'm thinking I should use 4 - 6 cameras. (it's a low budget video so most likely 4 cameras)

    But...here come questions.

Which camera should be put on crane? What crane would be best for this kind of shooting?

what kind of lights are the best for this stuff - genuine concert lamps,or film lamps.

If anyone had anything to say about this I'd be happy:)

    greetings to you all

  11. There are microscope adapters that one can use. I have seen them on eBay with C mount on the camera end to some microscope eyepiece mounts, for under $100. B4 mount adapters may be available but they will be more expensive.

There are some microscopes that have a CCD camera built in. Output from that (NTSC/ PAL only probably) can be recorded on to a deck. Or you can shoot it off a monitor with an HD camera using the on-board scan frequency settings.

    Thanks Saul

    what a great info!

I'm not sure what B4 mount is?

I will be shooting with EX1 camera (most likely) would the C mount adapters be ok?

the lens in this camera is not changable....?

  12. Hi everyone.

I'm sure anyone who shot lowbudget films had this expierience: before you start shooting, before you know your locations, before even there is fisnished script. They (production) ask you what lights/lamps do you need and how many?

If you have not really big expierience (like myself) you get kind of paralised. Like myself....

Anyway, I'm to prepare list of lamps I'd be using for documentary.

The only thing I know is that I can't have a lot.

    I thought of HMI's 2.5, 1.2 x 2

few (3) kino flos for interviews

    and maybe box of dedolights

    What do you think?

  13. I would like to ask if anyone could share expieriences on shooting with HD camera outdoor, in the park during sunny weather.

What should one be aware of?

Do you recommend softening an image with Soft FX filters?

and bringing the Fstop down with ND filters?

ANd darkening the sky with half ND filters?

Is it ok to have so many filters on camera?

I'm aiming to achieve kind of smoky look (not too strong though)

But I really hate greens and unfortunately I get to shoot in the park :~)

If anyone has to say something on the subject. I would appreaciate it.
