  1. I don't have experience shooting overseas, but I know that the best thing for transporting film is a lead-lined film bag that reflects radiation. This is the only way to ensure the film won't be damaged in transport by radiation. Also, if your lab is in Nigeria, then a fog test before you shoot would be prudent. I would also call both airports and find out what their policies are beforehand so that there are no surprises when you arrive. Good luck, I bet it will be quite an adventure.
  2. Hello, Just a quick question. How appropriate is it to introduce yourself to the actors? I know it's important to not distract the talent, but as an AC you get pretty close to the actors when you're taking marks, and sometimes it is necessary to communicate with them (a stop-and-go rehearsal, for instance). I always find it awkward, especially when working with unknown actors, when taking marks or trying to communicate with them, and you don't know their names because you haven't been properly introduced. It also seems like a quick introduction would make for a more pleasant work environment right off the bat. Obviously the DP would be introduced, but how far down the ranks does this go? So what's the protocol on this?
  3. Yikes, sorry to bump such an old thread- didn't see the date. I'm assuming he's bought something by now!
  4. What about a Palm Pilot and that Pcine software? I keep getting Palm pilots for free (I've got 2 now), but I think they can be acquired second-hand for very cheap. That works pretty well for me.
  5. wow John you know your post! So with regards to the 720p60 format, where are the extra frames coming from when originating on a 24fps format like film? is it like a 3:2 and then each frame is doubled?? Wouldn't the motion looks strange?
  6. Why would you get an XL2? The HVX200a is around $5000 new (without cards anyway). I wouldn't buy a steadicam rig either, I've never had trouble finding an operator with a good rig to come out for very reasonable rates when I need them. Also, I would say buying everything off ebay without actually using it first is a big mistake. Some retailers will allow you to rent equipment and deduct the rental price should you choose to buy. And like everyone is saying: don't skimp on the tripod!
  7. I think I sort of understand some of this (just sort of)... but could someone explain the DVCProHD format 720p60? It's not 60 FRAMES per second, but if it's a progressive format so it can't be 60 interlaced fields, can it?
