What is a Distro Box?
Nick Centera replied to Nick Centera's topic in Students, New Filmmakers, Film Schools and Programs
That makes much more sense now, thanks! If you running off a house, where would the distro get wired into? So that it gets all or most of the power from the house. Nick -
Hey, I have a CP16R and I am getting a Zeiss 10-100. The Zeiss has a B mount, so I got an adapter to go from B to Cp. I heard recently that using an adapter can cause problems with the focal distance since its not in the same place it would be with the adapter. My question, is there going to be a problem using the adapter? (slight soft or out of focus shots?) Thanks in advance. Nick

Hey, I have been searching through the forums here and have not been able to find a fisheye lens for a 16mm cam. Has anyone worked with one, is there even one for 16? If you know of any, please let me know. Thank you Nick

The light meter I have is ambient, or at least that's what the ASC manual says about it. What does that mean for using it on set?
-
Hey, I am beginning to use film and I will probably be using the light meter a lot, so are there any tutorials on how to use light meters, anything that can help me use it correctly? Thank you Nick

Hey, I will be doing a film test soon and this is my first time shooting on film. I will be shooting on vision2 and vision 3, 16mm. I was wondering if there is any advice or reliable process so that the test goes smoothly? Any help would really be great. Thanks Nick

First time shooting film
Nick Centera replied to Nick Centera's topic in Students, New Filmmakers, Film Schools and Programs
Wow, thank you to all who have spent the time on this topic. I may actually be getting the chance to move up to the CP16R, and if I do that, then I will get a pl hard front and get a Zeiss zoom. But I know a lot of what all you guys said carries over. I will just start shooting tests and see what I get and try to learn from those. Thanks again for your help! -
Ya, I called Filmworks/FX in Hollywood and asked them about it, and they said what you said. Film scanning is a much higher quality and telecine is used more for dailies. Its all based on budget, and unfortunately the budget that I will have to work with will not be enough for scanning. Thanks for your help

Are you still selling this package?

Hey, I am sure there are other posts on this topic but I was blind to see them. I am a tad nervous stepping into film. I am planning on shooting my first S16 short in the following months (on the K3 which is good and bad I've heard). 2 questions- 1. What is the best way to prepare for shooting film? I am worried about under/over exposing the film, but I do have a light meter which I will probably will be using quite a lot. 2.How do I get the film not to be "soft"? I have seen numerous student films and other things shot on 16 and they always seem to have soft and just amateur look to it. How should I go about getting a clean and sharp image? (if that is possible on the k3) Thanks

Ya, but I like to post in a few different sections to see if I can get a range of answers to go off of, but thanks to all who replied back.

Hey, I am confused on what exactly an HMI is? Why is it used, and when? Is it brighter then tungstens? Thanks Nick
-
Hey, I have always wondered what is an HMI? Like I know it's a light of course, but whats specail about it? Why is it used? What's the difference between lets say a 1.2 HMI and like a 1K light? Any help would be awesome. Thanks nick

Hey, I can't really give you any answers with the camera your using, but basic set ups for noir, if your going for a classic 30 or 40s black and white look then using cookies to get certain shapes and shadows on your actors and set pieces will help. Deep shadows add to the mysterious look. A great place to go for some help on b&w is http://ryanpatrickohara.blogspot.com/searc...k%20and%20white hopefully some of that helped.

I do not know what kind of software you have, but if you do have Aftereffects, then this tutorial will give you are great car hit. here is the link to the tutorial http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorial/advanced_car_hit/ I hope that it all works out for you. -
Hey, I have the A1 and have been working with it for a few months now. I am used to working with the pd-170 so my eyes may be biased, but when I look at footage from the A1, it has high contrast and the colors seemed to be have less life. I know that different cameras have different images, but the A1 image just seems like it isn't right. I have messed with the setting but have yet to get it to where I want to. Let me know if you have had problems like this or have any advice. Thank you

Hey, I was wondering if there was a place on the internet, or a book, or something that has a definition for different names for stuff. I have heard so many things that I have no clue and I want to know. I know that this should come in time with experience, but if I get on set and the DoP asks me to get something and I have no clue what it is, then I will not look as good. So if you have any advice or anything let me know. Thanks

Hey, I was wondering for those who have had experiences with both 16mm cameras, which do you prefer and why? I like the SR1 a lot, but it seems like it may be to pricey. Let me know your thoughts please. Thank you

Is single Perf the same is Super 16?
Nick Centera replied to Nick Centera's topic in Film Stocks & Processing
So on a regular 16 camera, you would most likely use single perf? Would that only expose part of the film cause the gate is not made for that big of an aspect ratio? Also, what about the cogs (not sure the actual name) that grab the film, those would have the double sides too.
