  1. That is a really good idea. Can you please post a pic of how you have wired up the 6pin connector to a monitor?
  2. Lens has been sent to Les Bosch for a look over. Hopefully he can fix it. I really do not want to send this back to the USA. That's what killed it in the first place
  3. The film does have a strong acidic smell to it. I just tried again and it is working ok. The film is horribly old near enough 40 years old. With a expiry date of 1969! Thought I could use it for something rather than binning it.
  4. I assume this is why the loops contantly tighten up to the point when the arm can no longer pull down the perfs. When I look at the perfs, it appears the arm has pulled down and torn it. Also the small plate and the piece that covers the arm keep kicking up. I assume this is all due to the differences in 16mm and Standard 8mm perfs, and not the way I am loading it. I have managed to run the full length through only twice.
  5. I have managed to run 50ft of standard 8mm film through the CP16 only once. This is because I am finding it extremely difficult to thread the film through the felt rollers on the inside of the magazine. It appears to be pot luck wether it will actually pop through the other side of the rollers. I can only get it through about 20% of the time. Is there a trick to this? Usually I start pushing it through and it just starts to loop in the little area between with plastic roller (which it goes behind) and the felt rollers. This is with a Mitchell style magazine btw.
  6. Thanks for the links. Its not the lens technically. Its the dog leg viewfinder that snapped off at the mount during transit. A bit OT but does anyone know how long it should take to charge a 12V CP16 battery from flat, using a Whitehouse Visual charger at 240V input?
  7. Hi. I was thinking of buying some leader in order to practice loading my CP16A, since the lens is damaged, I wont be using real film anytime soon. I remembered that I had a few spools of unused Kodachrome II, Standard 8mm. These can no longer be developed and I got them for about a pound each. Since standard 8mm is simply double perf 16mm film, could I use this to practice threading my camera properly? Or is this a no go. I can see no difference in using 16mm leader to an old spool of standard 8mm.
  8. The lens is an old angenieux f12 120mm. I have two stocks for a planned shoot which are 250d and 500t. Should I expect to get problems using the 500t stock? It is to be used for outdoor night time and some medium lit indoor work.
  9. I have a CP16A and I am in need of a lightmeter. The modern Sekonic models look nice but I do not want to spend that type of money. I am interested in these terribly cheap analog meters from yester-year such as Zeiss Ikon, Vivitar 45 and the old analog Sekonic models. I assume these in decent condition are ok to use? I couldn't imagine them being bad to use but I thought I better check here first. I was using my old Canon Ftb photo camera the other day and the internal light meter is still spot on after over 30 years. This leads me to believe old light meters are still worth their salt, if an old built in one, can provide great results. Thanks.
  10. I have quotes from both Whitehouse and Visual Products regarding fixing my CP16A lens and its viewfinder. However I was wondering if there was anywhere in the Uk that could repair this for me? I really do not want to ship the lens to the USA as all these poor shipping companies are what landed me in this horrible situation in the first place. I could imagine sending it off and it getting lost. Forcing me to start some useless claim once again. Does anyone in the Uk have the knowledge to repair this lens? The problem is that the viewfinder has snapped off the mount and the innards of the viewfinder appear to be borked as well. Ken from Whitehouse told me (I think) that there used to be someone in the UK who did it but has since retired. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  11. Many thanks to Jean-Louis Seguin! I put the screws back in and removed the small collar with a screwdriver. I now have the c-cup removed and ready to be shipped off with the lens. @Bernie, thanks. I will do that test when I have the working lens in my hands :) I am getting the lens repaired at Visual Products as they quoted me with the cheapest price for the repair. I assume they are a good, reputable company?
  12. Hi, I need my viewfinder and lens fixing on my CP16A. I have been told to send in my c-cup as well. Is the c-cup just the silver part protruding from the front of the camera or is it also the black c-shaped part as well? I have removed 4 screws from the black part and 3 screws from the silver part. Nothing moves. I assume I need to remove a few screws from the inside near the film gate? Can anyone please tell me how to remove the c-cup properly? Thank you!
  13. I have Mitchell mags. I thought that the core adapters were the same for both PLC and Mitchell?
  14. As the title says. I need 2 core adapters to fit a CP16
  15. While on the subject of cores and spools. When a brand new roll of 400ft kodak comes out the tin is it in a bag? Also is there any chance of picking up the roll of film and it completely collapsing of the core? Do you need to kind of push it together from both sides to keep it together? I ask because I have not done this before and the only time I will be doing it is in complete darkness.
  16. Ah yes, another horrible remake of a classic. The original Death Race 2000 was low budget fun and then they just had remake it with probably the most bland actor ever to get lucky in the film industry, Jason Statham. I don't want to go on about it. There really has been no interesting or decent film out at the mainstream cinemas for quite a while. My two big cinemas (UCI and ODEON) didn't even show Somers Town! Luckily I have a great ex-newsreel cinema near that shows old newsreels for free and also shows things such as the Straight8 contest and other short film competitions or events among all the latest foreign releases and lesser known UK and Hollywood films. http://www.tynecine.org/ And people say Newcastle has no class.
  17. Well I got an email back and they charge £2 per roll plus VAT. So it should be around £14 for all 6 tins. Not too bad really. Although I expect the cost of sending the 6 400ft tins via return postage will not be cheap!
  18. IMDB provides the following information on the film: Laboratory Alpha Cine Labs, Seattle (WA), USA Film negative format (mm/video inches) Video Cinematographic process Digital Video Printed film format 35 mm Aspect ratio 1.85 : 1 Maybe the grain is due to the transfer to 35mm?
  19. Thanks for the advice. Just dropped them an email to enquire.
  20. Well I ended up getting the 500T stock. So now I have 3x 250D and 3x 500T. All sealed, all old and secondhand. All refridgerated. I still cannot find anywhere that does clip tests. Any links to a friendly lab?
  21. I have found 3 sealed rolls of Kodak Vision 2 500T for £30 a tin. The guy says the rolls have a 'Best Before' date of Dec 2005. He also says they have been kept in a fridge since bought. Would you more experianced guys say that this too risky due to age and the likelyhood that it may not have actually been stored in a fridge? I am slightly tempted as I am looking for exactly 3 rolls of Vision 2 500T and the price is what I have paid for my other stock. I guess I will take your guys advice on this one. Also how much would I expect to pay to get 6 (400ft) rolls snip tested and does anyone know of a good place in the UK that does it? Thanks!
  22. Imageshack is always a quick and easy option. I usually upload and just use the 'direct link' to image link rather than all the annoying stuff.
  23. Hi, just thought I would say that I am also a student who is going to make a short 15 minute film. I am getting 3 rolls of daylight and 3 rolls of tungsten balanced. So 2400ft of film which gives a low shooting ratio of 4:1 I believe it can be done but more likely I will need more. I am not on a tight schedule so I am aiming to buy little odd bits here and there as a backup for my main stock of 6 rolls. For example, there is a guy on Ebay at the moment occasionally selling various tins which usually go for around £35 each. It is left over from his feature and I don't think he has that much left. Anyway, what I am trying to say is for an extra £35 it wouldn't hurt to buy a few extra bits. Also there is a book (I can't remember the name, hopefully someone else can) which clearly details how to shoot a film using low film ratios. Maybe it would be of some use to you. Although I did not buy it because for the price of the book I think I could get another tin of film!
