  1. Thanks Chris I'll have to get a set of jewelers screw drivers and have a look Thanks, Fred
  2. Thank you everyone for your fast replies I have tried the following Take off lenses Change diopter Flick switch next to viewfinder Change the variable shutter (none of them working, but I still haven't tried any of the other sugestions) I do not fully understand what to look for in the prism, or even how to find the prism, as I have only worked on non reflex cameras. I think I will send my bolex to the bolex service center in melbourn, australia. Unless anyone knows a sydney based bolex technician Thanks again, this forum has been so helpful
  3. Hello everyone This is my 3rd post, Anyway, this is probably an easily resolvable question, but it has caused me allot of problems and hours of web research (I'm waiting for my copy of the bolex bible). I have just purchased a bolex REX 5 off ebay. I had it lubricated and the optics cleaned, but when they returned the camera, and I (with much excitement and anticipation) looked through the viewfinder, I saw black. The viewfinder was working before the servicing so I do not think it is a mechanical error, so I think it is simply a switch I have to press. Note I do not know much about reflex Bolexes as I have only ever used non reflex ones. I have tried pushing that viewfinder lever, and adjusting the focus, taking off the lens and looking through, changing the rexofader (which shouldn't effect the viewfinder anyway...) This is a frustrating question with an easy answer (well probably) Thanks in advance, Fred
  4. Ok then, I guess I'll cope without one. Thanks for all the help. Fred
  5. That looks quite easy, and allot cheaper than the stuff on ebay, but do you know if it will accept standard follow focus whips? that is the main part that I am interested in so that I can drill a small hole in my blimp and poke the whip through, to control the focus from the outside of the blimp, if it doesn't, Ill just have to make a larger hole in the blimp and poke a (modified) longer focus knob through, I'll have to work out a way to block sound leaks. Ps Thanks for the quick reply Fred
  6. Hello again I have a couple of questions regarding Bolex lubrication 1) Should I attempt to do this myself or should I pay a man $125 to do it for me -is it worth the risk (breaking the camera) -is it hard to do (I have used the bolex several times, but only in rental situations, therefore I have not had to maintain one) 2) What type of oil should I use and what tools will I need 3) What is the procedure for lubricating a bolex, in steps 4) how often should I do this? Thanks In advanced Fred
  7. Dear Andrew, This is a tutorial I found on youtube, about how to light a car for a photo shoot, It shows you how to light a car very elegantly, showing the true beauty of a car (ideal for a commercial/promotion) Although it is intended for still photography, I'm sure much of the information can be transfered to film http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyJuwK269FI&...re=channel_page hope the link works Fred
  8. Correction I am very interested in the indian one ##@@**(on Ebay if you type in "follow focus")**@@##, "CINE Follow Focus + whip for xl1 xl2 hvx200 gear free" however I am worried about wether it would be the right height for a bolex, I am interested in a DIY way to adjust the height on this system.
  9. Dear Cinematography.com users, This is my first post, anyway, I was wondering about follow focus systems that are compatible with the bolex H16 rex 5, I am going to be using the 18-86MM F2.5 VARIO SWITAR ZOOM LENS (will this lens work with a follow focus?) I need this system to be able to control the focus from the Outside of a home built blimp Note: I am using the blimp to quiet down the camera, not to shoot sync. sound but to shoot animals without disturbing them, I am using a Bolex because I will be in Papua New Guinea and far north Australia (no wall socket to plug my charger into) to shoot A bird "Doco" about the Southern Cassawarie I would like to know any other ways of controlling focus from outside the blimp I am sure there are easier methods also, has anyone else done the same thing before? My budget for the follow focus is between us$200-700 I am very interested in the indian one, "CINE Follow Focus + whip for xl1 xl2 hvx200 gear free" however I am worried about wether it would be the right height for a bolex, I am interested in a DIY way to adjust the height on this system. Thanks in advanced Frederik Nielssen
