  1. Hello, Just wondering if anyone has heard of Lighting Film School? I believe they are based in New York. It's a course in which you write, direct, DP, do sound and Edit your own project. http://www.lightsfilmschool.com/ http://www.lightsfilmschool.com/blog/ If anyone heard of it, any feedback be appreciated. Thanks, Simona
  2. Hello, I am looking for some advice on working in LA as a camera assistant. I live in Toronto, Canada and my plan is to apply to two schools in Europe (VGIK and Lodz) for cinematography studies in the next few years. My present workplace is closing down and I am seeking for a new job. My goal is now to save as much money as possible in the next couple of years. I have been recommended of moving to LA and start working as a 2nd AC. 1.I am wondering if there is big demand in LA particularly for AC positions? 2.Is the salary much different in US then in Canada? Is it realistic moving to LA for some AC work? Is it possible of getting a contract, with a production company? Anyone with experience, who lives and works in LA, be kind enough to give me some suggestions on this matter, it would be highly appreciated. Thank you kindly, Simona

  5. Hello, I need some help. I plan on doing a Registration/Steadiness test on Aaton 16mm. I understand the steps of doing the test, but my question is; After doing the 1st Bypass, it says to rewind the film to the beginning. How do I rewind the film (in the dark ofcourse), if the film was initially wounded into the core on the Take-up Side of the Mag? What are the steps of doing the registration test on this camera? Thanks much
  6. Hello Im sorry I have to say I have a bit of silly question but I must know! I plan on doing a Registration/Steadiness test on Aaton 16mm which has Coaxial Mag. I understand the steps of doing the test, but my question is; After doing the 1st Bypass, it says to rewind the film manually to the beginning. How do I rewind the film (in the dark ofcourse), if the film was initially wounded into the core on the Feed Side of the Mag? How is this process done? Thanks much

  9. I am planning to shoot short film on 16 mil and like shoot most scenes in Deep Focus. Now I'm wondering, what are the benefits (other then the great look it creates), and downfalls of shooting in Deep Focus? I know it would require a lot of light, but could this be solved by using a very sensitive film stock? any advice would be much appreciated. I want to know what I am getting myself into. Thanks
  10. This may seem like a silly question but Id love for someone to answer this question for me, Stanley Kubrick, mostly used Wide Angle Lens I took a Cinematography workshop, and an instructor informed us that Kubrick used Wide Lens but Shallow Depth of Field. Now I'm confused. Because Wide lens has Great Depth of Field. What happens when you use small aperture opening on Wide lens? What effect does that give? Thanks
  11. Hello, Ive been recently given an advice by one individual on regards of getting your foot-in the door as a camera assistant for a Production Company. What are your thoughts, and has anyone heard of anyone interning as a camera assistant full-timefor a production company? Is that a good way to go? Ive been suggested to work and save money for 6-8 month period, (money to live on), then send a package with your resume, and cover letter to the President of your chosen Production Company, stating that you wish to work for free, for half a year or so. How high are the odds of it working out? Has anyone went thought that approach, if so, what would be your comments. thank you all
  12. Thank you all for the great responses!!! It definitely does not matter whether you light "your talent" or a pigeon... I'm off to experimenting with the birrds :)
