can you not shoot on a faster stock 200 - 800t could save a lot of lighting costs

I was recently trying to use a 6 k HMI from Arri and had problems with what I thought was a tempremental HMI. sometimes the lamp would go on, sometimes not. I wondered if it was a ballast problem. Arri said it was more likely a problem called 'hot striking' evidently a hot 6k HMI bulb often does not light can any one explain this and does anyone have a sollution other than just leaving the lamp on. ive been checking some optics tables and looks like maybe a 10mm?

I have a client wanting to use prime lenses with the DVW 790 camera i know the natural for 16mm film is around 16mm lens and for 35mm film the 28 or 35mm lens. but what is it for a digi beta?

I have been asked to shoot a short promo for a client and would usually, for the budget and type of promo shoot on Digi Beta. In the UK the new sony 1080i camera is being hyped everywhere, am i missing a trick by not using it for this promo. yes it's small and light and has a high resolution. But is it a serious contender for Digibeta replacement. What is the colour like? (ugly word for video i know but) what about depth of field? low light conditions? is there a best frame rate for slo mo? remember i am in the uk thats PAL 50hrtz. I gather the lens is fixed and the wide angle is an attachment like the PD 170 is this true? over to you. and thanks
