  1. So according to you, Steven Spielberg doesn't know how to direct actors. Yeah. Okay.
  2. It's the most expensive city, because it's the greatest city.
  3. As a New York State EMT, I know what you're talking about. I know what you mean from a personal standpoint, too. My health care just shot up from $400 - $500 a month. For example, I had to camcel an appointment at my physical therapist for a while due to my change in shifts. I called the other day and found out I had to go through the entire process that I had one month earlier because "it'd been too long" and "it's a law." It's a bullshit way for insurance companies to make more money.
  4. And you shouldn't be. You can't beat the free meals and free rent, right? ;)
  5. The cinematography of "Saving Private Ryan" served the story. Therein lies the beauty.
  6. This is all pretty good advice. Get yourself a basic camcorder or still camera and make short movies or take photos. I would highlight the still photography angle. You learn a lot of fundamentals if you start there, rather than learning along the way with motion picture photography. Get your compositions and lighting down first. Then move into motion photography. Good luck.
  7. The constant fade-ins and fade-outs in "Bloody Sunday" really annoyed me, especially when it faded-out one part of a scene, then faded-in to another part of the same scene. A lot of tension could've been built up, but the editing prevented it.
  8. I liked the overall atmosphere that Mark Pellington created with "The Mothman Prophecies."
  9. So how does it turn out to be worth while? What kind of benefits do you get by joining that union? That's a lot of money.
  10. No, it felt just right. And I don't know how anyone can say the acting had nowhere to go. Three great performances in my opinion.
  11. I'd like to see "Seabiscuit" win. I was blown away by some of the frames in there.
  12. I have to say that I beleive what makes or breaks a period piece, visually, is the production design. Photography comes second. Only if I feel immersed into that world will I automatically begin to examine the photography.
  13. I don't know... Reno 911, now that's a cop show! Yes, Comedy Central has a lot of funny shows on right now.
  14. I believe he also shot the series "Tour of Duty" on a regular basis.
  15. The show is presented in a 4:3 aspect ratio. Still worth a look.
  16. Just saw this today and thought it was excellent. The writing and performances (Del Toro stood out) were amazing. I loved the grainy look. Anyone knowe if this originated on 16mm or was it just pushed or skip bleached?
  17. Anyone else watching this? Very good new drama with interesting techniques and photography. Some excellent acting, too. Check it out before NYPD Blue comes back into the time slot: 10:00 P.M., Tues. ET on ABC. Bill
  18. An NYU cinematography instructor obviously felt the same way. He showed "Alien" with the sound off and we saw the lighting evolution in that film. Ridley is one of the few filmmakers who has been very consistent throughout his career.
  19. Gross? Jewish? I always figured German/Irish. But in that case, hope you had a Happy Hannukah (sorry...don't know how to spell it.) :) Bill
