  1. Hi,

That was surely shot on Super 8 Vision2, with a caring telecine done as well.

(and then, the news broke that it was actually E-100 5285 on Super 35 in a mod'ed Konvas Kosmonaut with £2m spend in post :P )

    Hi Michael

What gave you the idea that this was shot in Super 8 and what is a Konvas Kosmonaut ?

    Best wishes

  2. I've got access to this little camera, but I don't know how to modify it for my eclair NPR.

I think I need a beamsplitting prism or some extension tubes. I don't have a lens for the camera either...

Anyone know how to do it, or would be interested in building it for me .. I'll compensate you for your time if you're interested!

    Hi Justin

The problem with camera's like the NPR is where to put the beam spitter as you can see from this setup from Spectrum

    Hi Petin

I think you will find this is where you attach the bloop light that flashes the film when you use the MST motor

  4. Dismantling Cameras

I need advice from experienced users who've taken apart Super8 Cameras. How does the Lens come off the Camera? Does it unscrew from the outside on a regular Camera,

    Hi Terry

I have been trying to get behind a lens on a Nalcom 800 (not the model with the removeable lens)

its been sitting on my bench for weeks I can't see anywhere that removes lens

  5. Hello.

I just recieved my Canon 814XL-S from George Patoulidis this afternoon. So far I am very impressed by the build quality and function of this camera. I wonder if you 814XL-S users could tell me more about this camera. I also have had trouble locating the button to set the shutter angle.

    Best Regards. ;)

    Hi Matt

Try this site of Canon, it list all their cine, this is yours.

  6. Wondering if anyone has a copy of a opertaing manual, i was able to find the technical manual in .pdf form but was having a hard time tracking down an opertaing manual.

    thanks,

    john

    Hi John

I must have every manual that CP did for CP16 the only operation manual I have is for the non-reflex,

27 pages the rest are the blue service manuals, but I do have a illustrated parts catalog in original CP box folder 1977 133 pages I could scan these if I have a good day spare.

  7. Hi,

I´ll be shooting a feature film on S16. It will be most or maybe completely shoot handheld and probably long takes.

I´ll be shooting with and A camera with an AATON XTR or similar, but would like to go some days with an AATON MINIMA.

The thing is i´ll do light and camera and as it is a low budget feature i know from experience that it´ll be lots of hours (too many in my POV, but that´s another battle) with the camera on my shoulder.

Another thing is the director is a very good scriptwriter, but first time directors.

    So.....

Is there anything like a PL-mount director viewfinder with videoassist? so i could do rehersals like this without hurt too much my shoulder.

    Any other idea?....

    Should i take esteroids?

    Hi

I worked on a film called "Revolution" starring Al Pacino bummed at the Box office but was a great film to work on, I was Sound FX Recordist. The director Hugh Hudson wanted as it was a war film a doco look, the two camera operators had to handhold Arri 35BL's, even on crane & dolly shots they had camera's on their shoulders

  8. Hi Victor

Thanks for reply what sort of flying time do you get at 48FPS and have you managed to get video assist as well or are you flying blind.

    Don

    Hi Victor

Forget the bit on Video assist have just seen your site, Very nice setup

  9. Hello Don, thanks.

Yes, i have also seen some 35 eyemos modified for this use, in my case it is a g.s.a.p. with many mods.

  10. Having video only background, the turns of life made me get into the film world. I remember an early post of mine in this forum (some 3 years ago) looking for a small 16mm camera, small enough to be operated from a remote controlled helicopter, tried many until i found the right one.

Now im totally enloved with film!

    Hi Victor

Very nice, what camera did you use ? I have seen modified 35 mm Eymo's used here in UK.

  11. i could be wrong but the image area for ultra16 is bigger than super16, so finding the right lenses will be an issue i think

This is what Bernie said in a earlier reply

It will cover the full range of "normal" 16mm lenses. You're not recentering the lens axis by the 0ne mm required in S16. The gg will need to be remarked a little wider on both sides.

  13. We're working with a Va lab and are finalizing machine work on a transfer w/scanning to enable Ultra 16 DI. Don't want to push too hard on the lab, but they're getting clost to liftoff.

I'll happily relate any good news as soon as it happens. I have a line of cameras waiting with nervous excitement.

    Bernie

    Hi Bernie

Can you tell me what lenses will be needed for this Ultra 16 and will it cover camera's like Beaulieu R16 which they say can not be converted to S16 due to mirror shutter.

  14. Bolex rex5, trigger not responding anymore.

Was shooting a 48fps shot, no problem. (Using the spring wind, no batteries)

Switched motor to "O" with a full wind, put camera away. Switched motor "MOT", set camera to 18fps. Pull trigger, "CLICK" and nothing happens.

    1. When I push in the trigger nothing engages.

    2. (may not be an issue) noticed that when I switch down to "O" on the side of the bolex there is resistance- that is normal. If i switch to "MOT" there is no resistance. The switch flops around in between the "MOT" sign to about the 9 o'clock position.

It was recommended that i try spraying some wd40 into the "release selection control (M STOP P) control.

Any help would really be appreciated... I'm SOL out here in KALMAR, SWEEDEN, I don't know what to do!

Heading to budapest on Monday via train... hope to get 'er working before then..

    Hi Justin

Have just emailed my mate in France who service's Bolex says it could be anything even broken

spring I know when I put motor on mine I have to release tension by pushing run button

  15. I'm guessing the AMP Hours dictates the amount of total juice the belt holds and 12v is what the camera will draw from the belt to operate.

    Am I correct?

How long do Amp Hours last on a Bolex EL running the 400 mag as well?

Do you guys think it's better to have two belts, one for running/one as a backup just in case, or will a large belt last for days... Just looking for opinions

    Thanks

    Kip

    Hi Kip

The battery is a 20 AH which means you should if your camera draws 1 amp get 20 Hrs

2 amps 10 Hrs but in real life this is a bit less as you won't run it flat

Two batteries are good as you should always have a backup get a small sealed lead gel battery

  16. Hello Bolex experts out there.

I just got my EL in the mail from eBay... as usual it was sitting in someones closet for years.

It came with a manual and I've searched this forum but still no answer.

How do you tell when and if the battery is fully charged using the Bolex regular charger?

How can you tell if it holds a charge well... please describe the symptoms of a bad battery.

The ones that came with the cam only run for a short while and the camera dosen't run that well on them either.

I just want to know there shot before I buy a battery belt and an adapter to use with the EL as described in other posts.

    Thanks,

    Kip Kubin

    Hi Kip

Ni-Cads need a good 14-16 hour charge if that does not work then I would say they are past their best.

  17. This one worked!

So for anyone else out there with the same problem in the future, here's my solution:

    1. I bought a Bescor battery with an XLR pin from B&H. It doesn't have to be that model, but it needs to have the wire with the XLR pin (see step 3)

    2. I ordered the Amphenol Tuchel 4-pin Connector (523 T 3301 001) from Mouser Electronics

    3. I removed the XLR pin from the battery

    4. With a lot of patience, a soldering iron, and some intuition, I installed the new Tuchel pin. The Tuchel connector has the four pins labeled "1" "2" "3" and "4" so it makes it a bit easier. Just remember 1 & 2 are negative and 3 & 4 are for the positive. Also, the Bescor battery's wires are labeled. I am sure a pro Electrical Engineer would look at my solder connections and laugh, but hey, it works!!

The nice thing about this particular Tuchel connector is that it screws on the Bolex EL and there is no fear of it falling off while shooting.

    Hi Mitsos

Glad it worked keep practising the soldering it will get better get some heat shrink sleeving when you next make a lead to insulate the joints as its a bit tight in the Tuchel DIN plug

With the money you saved you can buy some film stock

    Regards
