If republicans in congress are so set on lowering the nations debt, why don't they start by agreeing to lower their salaries? I notice it's everything else that needs to be axed. Not once has it come up to cut down on their own spending. Frankly, this applies to the democrats as well. Neither side wants to give up their own fat paycheck, yet they want to cut everyone else's.
