About Me

Mika Orasmaa studied at the Art and Design School in Helsinki and participated in workshops held by Vittorio Storaro, Phedon Papamichael and Laszlo Kovacs.



In 2004 Orasmaa shot the award-winning film GOURMET CLUB directed by Juha Wuolijoki. The film was awarded Venla, the Finnish equivalent of the Emmy. The film was also awarded at the 47th Monte Carlo Television Festival and received the Finnish State Quality Award.



In 2007 Wuolijoki and Orasmaa reunited on Mika's first theatrical feature film CHRISTMAS STORY . Mika’s work on Christmas Story earned him Jussi Award for Best Cinematography, the Finnish equivalent of the Oscar.



In 2012 Orasmaa's next feature RARE EXPORTS was awarded best feature and best cinematography in Sitges 2010. Mika also earned his second Jussi Award with RARE EXPORT and the film received the Finnish State Quality Award.



Mika’s latest theatrical features include science-fiction comedy IRON SKY, budgeted at $10M, directed by Timo Vuorensola. Crime story 8-BALL, directed by Aku Louhimies and a gangster drama ZARRA'S LAW, a feature film set in New York, directed by Juha Wuolijoki, starring The Sopranos star Tony Sirico, Brendan Fehr and Burt Young (Rocky, Chinatown).



Recently Orasmaa reunited with Jalmari Helander on an action feature BIG GAME, Starring Samuel L. Jackson, Ray Stevenson, Jim Broadbent, and Ted Levine. Film will be released in 2014.
