I'm doing some post on a documentary for a client. One of the shots from an EX1 has a series of wide, horizontal stripes creeping slowly up the frame. They vary the color of the shot from warmer to cooler and back. It was a tripod shot, and I think it was probably lit with available fluorescent office lighting. It's not extremely noticeable unless you scrub across the timeline -- then very obvious.

Does anyone know what would cause this (frequency of the lighting? interference?) or how I could attempt to get rid of it?

Awesome. The 58 will cut out most of the background noise, as long as the people being interviewed keep it relatively close to their mouths. Even if it's down by their chest it'll work well.

My first question.

 

I am filming a promo video for a live band this weekend and they require short interviews with themselves and with the crowd as the day and the live music goes on.

 

I have a Rode NTG2, Shure SM58, SM57, Rode Video Mic, Electrovoice ND967 microphones.

 

Which one should I use? I want one on the camera (probably the Rode Video Mic) and one in the interviewers hand who will interview the band/attendees in a q&a style.

 

Any advice?

The shotgun won't be worth much except for making your rig look more pro, which can be valuable! Go with the SM-58 handheld (with foam pop filter) for getting the audience and band interviews-- if it's the classic 58 you won't mind it getting banged up and vomited on at a rock club. If you can, get ahold of a Zoom H4n, and don't trust the feed from the venues mixing board. Use its onboard mics. You might also want some kind of hand-held light, since lighting is usually horrible in audiences. Also, I recommend getting on the stage with the band and getting cool closeups from extreme angles. The tripod from the corner look is never too interesting -- it gets boring really quick! Hope you have fun and get some good stuff!

Which DSLR and lenses did you use? And which shots were F900?

I would not be surprised if it's a stock effect in Final Cut Pro X or iMovie. Let me know if you find out!

I will most likely be shooting medium and closeup shots of a guitarist playing and singing, all from the waist up. I'm curious if there are any settings that would suit the motion of his fingers and strumming, and making sure that doesn't cause any problems with the keying.

I'm hoping to shoot a music video using an EX3 against green screen.

I've done a lot of keying with other cameras / footage, so no problems in that department. But are there any special considerations or pitfalls when using this camera model, any special settings that might help me?

I noticed in the Technical Details on IMDB that a 5D and 7D were used on Avengers in addition to the Alexa and Arriflex.

I'm wondering if anyone here could explain what role the 5D and 7D would serve in a high budget movie like this. Are there certain types of shots or situations where they would be the best choice over the high-end cinema cameras? And what sort of lenses would most likely be used?

I know this is an old thread, but I'd like to report that I've been shooting with a Panasonic HMC-150 for 2 years -- and it has a signature "hashtag" artifact pattern at 100%. I've compared the footage to that of an identical unit at another studio, and it seems to be inherent in the model. I haven't had this problem in regular usage of more expensive cameras (EX-1, EX-3) or in cheaper cameras (Canon HF-G10).

If anyone has noticed the same artifacts, let me know.
