  1. Hey guys, I've got a low budget(of course) music video coming up. We are shooting a performance of the band in late afternoon, not golden hour.

So far I've got 2 6x frames with an ultrabounce, silk, and solid, and 2 shiny boards ordered. Is there anything else you would suggest I get in order to be able to work with just the daylight and make them look good?

I'd do 12x frames, but we only have 2 grips so I don't know that we have the man power/time for that.

    Thanks

If you go that route then I would cut off the hook, or even see if I could remove the plastic bit off the top and still have it work (depends how it works). Then it would be a bit like a tiny light sabre. Doesn't look like it takes internal batteries tho?

I might respray the base a different colour or redecorate it in some way.

I'd also gel the tubes different colours personally.

How would you recommend I gel the tube? These will be seen pretty close up so I couldn't just wrap it.

  3. Hey guys, I'm shooting a scifi-ish music video next month. They want the talent to be holding "light tubes". I know I've seen them in movies before, like a battery powered tube, but I can't find anything like it. The only thing I can think of would be using a small Kino tube, but then you have to run wires to both sides.

Does anyone know of anything I could use for this?

    Thanks!

  4. I shot 300 fps on Epic on this video: https://vimeo.com/49073439 (skip to 1:37) and I lit it with just a 1.2k HMI with an electronic balast. Obviously we didn't have the budget for anything bigger or the high speed ballasts. But this shows you how much flicker you get at 300fps without that ballast. We also were at a 90 degree shutter I believe.

Also Denoiser was added in post which got rid of some of it.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Hey guys,

I've got a 10 day shoot coming up in a studio space. We have 3 people sitting at a table in the middle of the room. I want to hang a light overhead that is super soft, and is dimmable to let the room fall off or show what is behind them depending on the day.

I recommended getting a 2k Spacelight with Silk frame, but the director is now wanting to see the light in the shot sometimes. He wants it to look like a large 4-5 foot china ball. I personally think it will need to be more diffused than a china ball, plus I hate the way china balls actually look on camera with that weird pattern they have.

Are there any large diffused ball type lights out there? I know that there are the inflatable ones, but I don't think we want to go that route.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

  6. Ok guys, I have a music video coming up where we want to have a guy driving in a car and then cut to the exact same frame of him in an interior room where a band is performing. We will do another match frame with an actress in the performance space and in a house. I recently saw this on a commercial where a guy is walking back and forth through the frame and it cuts between about 30 different locations flawlessly. What is the best way to achieve this?

This is going to be slightly run and gun but I need to make sure it is pulled off perfectly.

    Thanks for the help.
