  1. Hello, I'm currently editing a small DVD production in which all the footage has been shot on a Sony PDX10P. I'm trying to get that "Progressive" or "Film Look" (whatever you want to call it) What is the best way to achieve this? (besides the obvious of using a progressive camera) Is it as simple as de-interlacing the footage in Premiere? Are there other programs which can do this better? Thanks to all who reply...
  2. what?...... rock lobster? yeh you can borrow it....
  3. yeh 2 steak & eggs 3 large chips & a scoop of blueberry choc chip thanks.....
  4. Hello all, What is the name of the technique used when the camera is moving away from the subject being shot but the lens is zooming towards it which makes it look like the background & subject are racing towards you? Any info on how the pros achieve this shot?
  5. Hello to all, I'm applying for a video camera operator position with a TV station. Its an entry level position & i'm super keen on giving it my best shot. I just have some questions about this: 1. They use Beta SX format. Any advice, info or links I need to know about this format? 2. I'm 6'6" & quite fit. Would an employer view my height as an advantage in this type of work? 3. Any other general advice or tips I may need to know. Thanks in advance to all who help...
  6. Thanks for all the replies
  7. thanks for the link. Is there anymore info on Betacam SX?
  8. Thanks for all the replies everyone... What do the numbers after the format mean? ie: (25MB/4:1:1) I assume the 25MB means the amount of data recorded per second but what do the ratios mean?

    ENG Formats

Can anyone tell me the most common video formats used for ENG currently? Any info on compression rates, etc etc would be great. Is there a website which explains this? Just need to know the basics for now.
  10. That would be great to hear how it all goes. Keep us posted!
  11. thanks for that... Since I have some nice Nikon lenses already, would it be ok to use a Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 with a C-Mount adaptor? Also Rachel, how much is it going to cost you to do the Super 16 conversion?
  12. Hello all, Finally found a RX5 & very keen to use it. I have 2 lenses, one is a 25mm Switar f1.5 (non RX) & the other is an Elgeet 13mm. Are these lenses ok to use on the RX5?
  13. Now I understand, thanks, that was a good explanation.
  14. Correct me if I'm wrong but I was almost certain the PDX10P when recorded in 16:9 mode gave you an output image of 1024x576. Whenever I import clips into my PC & when I click on the properties on the clip, it comes up saying its a 1024x576 image... Please someone correct me if I have this wrong as I was almost certain this was true, hence the reason why this camera is quite popular...
  15. Hello to everyone... I own a Sony PDX10P PAL 3CCD model, which has the wide CCD sensor which gives you a full res 16:9 image(1024x576). Now can this signal be converted into a HD signal with ok results? Is there a device or software/hardware that can do this or if there isn't, will there be something available in the future? Thanks to all who reply....
  16. I use a Manfrotto 055legs/501 fluid head, I think the head can handle about 6kilos in weight. Does the job well for what I do & isn't overly heavy. You'll probably find the K3 has a larger tripod thread than most video cameras so make the tripod head you use can accomodate it. I pretty much just shoot surfing footage. Haven't done any projects except for about 5 weddings with my Sony PDX10P. I'm looking at shooting some 16mm on those perfect surf days this year as much as I can but mostly shoot video. I'm looking to team up & meet more 16mm film shooters to do some sort of short film. I'm not much of an editor, I use PC with Premiere 6.0. I know the basics & am pretty good with computers. If I had better PC & hardware/software I could do some good editing but sitting in front of computers gets me a bit depressed at times. I love going out in the sun all day long shooting good surfers, thats my ideal thing...
  17. Daniel, I'm the last person you'd wanna ask about 16mm. I've been shooting video & super 8 for the past couple years & have only just got the bug to shoot 16mm, total novice here (although it helps that I work at a camera repairer) I'm sure others on here will be able to help.
  18. actually I ended up buying a RX5 Bolex instead. I've heard mixed reports on the K3 so I decided to spend the extra & buy a RX5 (US$600). I will also be modifying it to Super 16. Although with the low price of the K3 its worth buying one just to try out.
  19. Sorry my reply is off the original topic but I find it really rude & annoying at the extremely small minority of trouble making fools on here like this guy Jerry (although to me it sounds like a renamed Ultra, look at the similarity of topics & writing style...). I'm a 23yr old novice to cinematography & its equipment & find these message boards of great use & information, especially being located in Perth as there are very few people to ask advice from around here. Its great to be able to get almost always good & quick answers from experienced people in the field. Its also good how John@Kodak & other employees of companies come on here & give their input. I know this probably can't be done effectively being the internet but it would be of great benefit to this messgae board & many other boards on the net if people like this idiot could be blocked, banned, identified, etc. I apologise for this post but I get sick of the fools...
  20. Sam, do you mind me asking what you paid for the RX4?
  21. I'm really liking 16mm at the moment & have the oppurtunity to buy a Bolex RX5 for AU$900 (US$690) in good condition. I know there are many HD models coming out soon so I'm a bit worried whether this will affect the Bolex price & viability. Without starting this thread into yet another film vs digital "mass-debate" is it still wise to purchase a Bolex at this price?
  22. Have you actually seen the movie? What were your thoughts on the jet ski & water footage? (I thought the aerial footage was great). Being a keen water filmer myself I'd have to say the water footage in the Oddessy was poor....
  23. Myself being an extremely keen surfer & a wanna-be surf film-maker & photog, I was pretty excited when the surf film "Billabong Oddessy". So I went to my local R-Max theatre (formerly IMAX) here in Perth to watch it but was quite disappointed at the quality of all the water footage (I assume it was shot from a jet-ski or similar) It was soooo shaky & unclear & can not understand why this is so & why they used the water footage at all. The helicopter & other footage I thought was good, esp the first wave on the movie. I hear they used 24P 1080, can anyone confirm this? Any comments?...
  24. Firstly thanks for the replies. Kevin you said the lens is a bit contrasty but I wouldn't use the standard lens much & would buy something along the lines of a Pentax 300mm so that I can zoom right in on the action. I see on Ebay they're about US$200ish but from the websites they range from US$700 & above. I see NCS products have the Super 16 gate for the K3 (which I would definetely be interested in), has anyone used the Super 16 gate? Reel Trading also do an upgrade for US$365, is this necessary & has anyone done this?
  25. Hello all, I'm contemplating buying a Krasnogorsk K3 16mm camera as I'm finding it hard to buy a Bolex on Ebay at a reasonable price without being sniped out at the last second. I've used the Bolex before & think they're a great camera but could anyone give me advice on the K3, like the reliability, what problems to look out for (i've heard they have some common problems), cost, where is a good place to buy etc. Also how would they compare to the Bolex in terms of reliability, features, image quality etc. Thanks to all who reply....
