  1. Hi! this is perhaps a strange question but I´m very eager to know.. what is the difference between color grading and color timing? I wish to learn more about the two processes.. how can I learn? is there any litterature? How does one become a good color timer/grader? The software i have tried so far is lustre and color finess... any advice that can help me as a future colorgrader/timer is accepted... (and please no relative answers that apply to everything in life: like it all depends on the material shoot, on your previous skill and "it's not the tool it´s the operator" I know all this so I'm trying to save same time for those prepared with these kind of answers)
  2. what do you mean "dificulties in professional use" ? what kind of difficulties? besides the frame size and the external sp player?
  3. alright, so the biggest worry is the frame size. I kind of wondered why it was sold so cheap... but this particular camera, its an PAL is it not? Thats the P in the name?
  4. I've got an offer on the Sony BVW-300P, as I'am interested in another format besides dv, this might perhaps be an option. How's the quality on this cam? does the footage look good? broadcast standard? easy to use? any comments will be gratefully recieved
  5. I´m going to shoot a music video on 16mm. It´s my first time using 16mm, have used 8mm and i need to start with 16mm. But the thing is that i dont know much about it. For example, the two cameras mentioned that i have at my disposal, is it difficult to load them? and how is it done? which of the two cameras would you prefer and why? what filmstock should i use if im shooting indoor tungsten? i need the most versatile filmstock that wouldnt complicate stuff for me. do i need a light meter in order to set the fstops or does the camera one on it? all advice are welcome!!! (except for "shoot with video" it is out of the question)
  6. Sorry for bothering you guys with my never ending questions. But I´m really obsessed with turning my 50i into 50p. And I´m not sure if I got it right. I´ve loaded my footage into AE, stretched it to 200% and applied the algolith Adaptive Deinterlacing. Is this correct? I mean it looks good but before i start slowing it down even more i wanna be sure I`m using all visual information available. Have I finally coverted my 50i to 50p? Or what´s the next step? Thankful for replies!!
  7. I have som footage shoot with 50i. Slow-motion is required for some of these. I have read here how to do it in AE using 60i, can someone explain to me how I could convert my 50i to 50p and make a nice slow-mo effect?
  8. I´ve been wondering, according to me frame quality is when there is little noise in your picture. Like when I use a consumer 1ccd camera, it pixels alot where its dark. Obviously this is normal but why is this so? why cant cheap cameras let black areas or unsufficiently lit areas just be dark, why does it pixelate them. I think this is a common video problem, i have used the xl1 and the hdv-z1 and the tend to pixel also. But when i used the GY-DV500 this was not an issue, the dark was just dark, or lack of image representation not some pixels inhabiting the frame. I´m asking this as i plan to shoot a documentary, and for some of the interviews i would like to get a very "contrasty" frame. and where its dark i dont want pixels. which camera do you suggest i use. as the budget is restricted, i problably cant get hold of the GY-DV500. whenever I have discussed this with someone, they say its about the lighting, but seriously, do you have to lit something you want to be dark. it´s sounds absurd. I personally like a frame thats shows alot of contrast, and fill lights and such shouldn´t be neccesary for the desired effect.
  9. So I can use the HDV format in AE? That´s great! now the problem is solved. Thanks
  10. Recently, i shot a video using a sony HDV-Z1. I was filming in 50i HDV. Then when it was cature time, I used premiere pro with aspect HD. Using this program, there is a lot of options, I tried to import in 50progressive despite the fact that i didnt shot in progressive and it looked very interlaced. So i tried to capture in 50i and the footage still looks very interlaced. I mean, I have seen material shot using the hdv-z1 and it holds broadcast quality. How do I fix this? Is it only looking like this on my monitor and will it look differently on the tv? I could always deinterlace it in After Effects but then I have to export it to SD before. a significant loss of quality. Or is there another solution or am i just panicing for no reason?
  11. I´m going to shot a music video, the camera at my disposal will be the Sony DV CAM DSR 570, has anyone here had any experience with it? Is it any good? quality? functions? limitations? all advice is wamly welcomed.
  12. I recently started to film on super-8 and I have come across some difficulties. The last cartridge of filmed that i used was a kodak k40, it was used just for experimental filming as i plan to make a short film on super-8. I sent the film for development in Switzerland, but when i got it, it was completly black. You cannot even distinguish where the frames should be. I used a Bauer C Royal. What could be the reason behind this black film?
