Actually with Tungsten it is pretty straight forward on the wattage/amps and since they are dumb lights, no electronic circuitry to add to the mix of figuring out power.
But people often forget to check out the continuous running specs on generators.
Although the Honda 3000 bills itself as a 25amp generator *** that is for only a short time: running less than 30 mins at full amp draw.
In reality it is only a 2800w generator. 23.3 amps of available power.The specs for the Honda 3000is : 120v 3000w max (25amps) and 2800watts continuous use (23.3amps)
Anyhoo- yes you can run a 2K Tungsten on a Honda 3000is.
2k tungsten pulls about 16amps.
If you are going to run it out on a long stinger get a 10g extension cord that plugs into the 30amp Twistlock receptacle. -
Can I run a 2k mole richardson frensel off a Honda Eu 3000IS? Or is that 2k to much to handle on a 3000is generator. I know theres more to it than just wattage.

thank you! I look forward to finally being able to try my 2k out! :)Yes to the 2K, you can put a 1500w globe in it, but you can also run the 2K as is off a 20A circuit. Re-lamping the 5K would be more complicated. It would require a socket change and a riser to bring the 2K socket up to the point where the filament would be centered in the reflector.

Okay guys A couple questions. I love to incorporate the mole Richardson units in my photography. I love the vintage look and the beautiful light they produce. Now I have some questions about powering these lights...
1. Can I put a less wattage bulb in these fixtures and run them on standard household power? For example can I take the 2k bulb out and say put in a 1500 watt bulb? My light fixture also has a bates connector instead of a Edison plug so I went ahead and bought the adapter to connect the two. This unit is 20 amps.
2. Now for the 5k I have pretty much the same question. There is no way I can run a 5k off of a standard household outlet without probably calling out a professional electrician. However what if I put a 1500 watt bulb in the unit ? Would this allow me to do something like that since I am cutting the power down? I also realize I would need a Edison adapter for this since it is 60 amps and it came with a bates plug. I have had no luck finding a 60 amp Edison adapter except from rental houses.
The most obvious choice is to scale down my lights and purchase a less wattage light outright but I really like the look of the big units as props on photographs I am taking. Sorry if this is confusing. Thanks for the help!

I really want to do this just to experienment and for the hell of it. I will shoot it using a 35mm still camera. Now I know the processing of this kind of film is different than regular standard Kodak Portra film. Is there any where in particular where I can get this process done? Are there any labs that will remove the back of the film so it can be processed in the right chemicals? Also since I am guessing most films are filmed at a 1/48 shutter speed, is it possible that I can up my shutter speed to 1/60 and still get some nice sharpness and detail? Sorry if this sounds confusing. I also guess I would set my ISO on my camera to 500 since I am shooting 500t?

Thanks for the reply David! I love to be behind the camera and operating it and lighting scenes...is this still a field I should go down? Its kind of a bummer that If I do make it a career in the future I wont be behind the camera.

Very curious about this I am talking for big budget hollywood films. Do most DOP's actually handle the camera? Or is there a seperate person for this job?

If you don't own the camera, there's a chance that Panavision has some converted Arricam LT's for rent with PV mounts, so ask them. Otherwise, the Panaflex Millennium XL is the closest thing to an Arricam LT.
Is there a reason why most people shooting film tend to lean more torwards the Millenium than the Arricam Lts? Is it really just down to the lens choices in the end?

Panavision cameras and lenses use PV-mounts, not PL-mounts. So generally you rent both the camera and lenses from Panavision. If you own an Arri PL-mount camera, you should rent PL-mount lenses for it.

Very curious. I want to shoot a short film and I am doing it on Kodak vision 3 stock. It will be about 11 minutes long. Already have the camera body, but would love to use some panavision glass. Also I heard that in order to use panavision lenses you also have to rent their camera bodies. Is this true? I plan on shooting on the Arri LT by the way.

A 4K ARRI doesn't exist yet -- can you wait for two years, for example, in case it isn't being sold until then? If so, isn't this discussion rather hypothetical?
I've shot three features on Red cameras and they didn't have any major problems; I think the reliability issue between Red and ARRI is a bit exaggerated, but I do think the ARRI's are built like tanks. Of course, that also makes them heavier...

The RED cameras are just not as well built and as reliable as the Alexa. You get what you pay for as the old adage goes.
You've heard numerous things about the Alexa being unreliable? I'd like to know from who?

Sorry I worded that wrong. I ment to say i heard that some red cams are unreliable and run into trouble on set. I obviously don't want this to happen to me. I will most likely wait until arri comes out with a Alexa 4k. Although it will be pricey I know it will be a cam to last a lifetime. How much do u guys seeing it go for? Possibly a double in the price of the Alexa? I doubt it but u never know these days.

And I wouldn't call the Alexa "digital crap" Guy. If the Alexa was good enough for a mega budget heavy VFX film like, "Life Of Pi." Then it's good enough for me as well.
That said I still love 35mm. My main issue with RED products is the amount of down time they generate on set. Ask any AC what they think of RED products and they will roll their eyes. I shot in the woods under all sorts of harsh conditions with the Alexa for 5 weeks and the camera never so much as said boo. That's a far cry from the endless stories I hear about RED cameras crapping out on set in the middle of the shoot day.
What terrifies me about digital cinema is rendering out your final edit on the Mac, and having a 90 min movie come out to 120GB. Then delivering this on a pocket drive to the post house for colour correction! It's pretty amazing. I expect in 10 years the 90 min movie will be a file that's 50GB, and it will just keep getting smaller and smaller.....

Yep reading stories I may just hold off until Arri decides to release a 4k/. Iv heard numerous things about them also being unreliable. Honestly how much do you think a 4k would cost and how much would it drive the Alexa up if they do decide to release it? Do you think they will try to compete with red in terms of price? I also wonder how long its going to take them until they decide to release it. The release of the dragon has shown that you can up the resolution and still keep the dynamic range.

I am torn between these 2. I really like the look of the Alexa (it looks more like "film" to me) but the Dragons price is calling my name seriously. The dynamic range is amazing as is the DR of the Alexa. What do you guys think?

Does anyone know where I can purchase a New Arri LT? And what is the purchase price? I know its expensive so a high number will not suprise me. I have only seen prices for used. If I do decide to buy used what should I look out for before purchasing? I know people will recommend going digital because its cost but there is just a look I get with film that I cannot acheive with digital for whatever reason.
