First I would print new gate (UltraPan8) and lens mount. I very much like Beaulieu MR8 with Pan-Cinor lenses.
-
Which Double8 camera can be modified (gate) to shoot single 16mm? Is it possible? I would then take 16mm lens with built-in viewfinder.
-
-
Beaulieu is also reflex mirror, diaphragm is in lens and viewfinder is dark. What about Bolex H16 with 13x mag? Real comfort?
-
I also use Beaulieu MAR8 with Pan-Cinor lens (built in viewfinder) - this is perfect combo but no film stock. Very bright viewfinder. I've never use Arri or Aaton or Bolex.
-
How to use f/stops above 5.6? Viewfinder becomes very dark.

PX625 cell works. How to use fade-in-out? 0-1-2-3-4 lever is blocked.

I successfully developed Kodak 7201 in C41 from Scoopic MS - no heating for tank only for chemistry. Problem is with remjet - must be removed mechanically (pre bath in baking soda). Lot of work :(
Threading on Scoopic from 400ft roll - wind on spare spool then rewind on another and then thread the camera - again lot of work.
-
Got another unit which is MS - previous was MM. Film goes smoothly but side cover is loose and new gaskets have to be installed. Hard to find in a good shape.
-
Runs fine, yes I use built-in cutter, cutting straight or angled no matter. It jams when passing take up sprocket. Maybe Bernie knows?
-
I have Kodak 7201 single perforated film.
-
I'm testing camera with Kodak Vision and film stucks when loading on register pin :(
-
I haven't tried rechargable batteries yet. 8x mignon gives 12,7V and costs $2.
-
-
Tomorrow going to shot Vision2 50D on Scoopic and self develop ecn2.
-
I'll do batteries myself. 50mm lens is good for large venues. Anyone use 35mm or mirrorless lenses on projectors?
-
BTW - looking for wide angle lens for Elmo 16CL projector.
-
Got Scoopic 16ms without batteries :-(
-
For me it's important:
easy film load, less than cartridge capacity
bright large viewfinder easy focus
shoulder comfort (but I can use arm rig)
All my S8 trials were fine but picture clarity was more or less VHS :)
Projected better than DIY telecine through Sony A7.

Ultra16 mod DIY or by...? Have you worked with Aatons?
-
Great answer - thank you! I will get MS version to try out after longer break. There is no better alternative for $300 camera I think? Eclair ACL? Beaulieu R16?

You are right Beaulieu R16 isn't much bigger. With 3D printer I could make new gate and lens mount but shutter will probably make it impossible. If only Kodak could make Double8 Vision 50D... so you have Bolex H8rex with double throw register pin for 16mm film?Beaulieu has registration pin. I like mylar base films because acetate like Fomapan R can brake in eg. Canon Scopic.
