  1. Hi, Could someone share your knowledge about 'Diehard' movie(1988). 1. Picture1-Gunfire 2. Picture2- There is sparkle when bullet is hitting the meta sheet. 3. Picture3- Again sparkles falls down infront of Bruce Willis who is trying to move in the tunnel due the hit of bullet. How the Gunfire and sparkles is made? 4. Picture4-Alan Rickman's character is falling down from the building.. 5. Picture5- The explosion with helicopter on top of the building. What is the technique behind these shots? -Collins.
  2. I have searched. All the results are related to torch lights.
  3. Thanks Hartman. Could be those are low cost alternatives.
  4. Just added country. I am from India. My observation made in India. http://www.garwarepoly.com/clear-film/ http://www.rgbspectra.com/gateway.html These kind of sheets are used in front of lights. I don't know these are any industry standard materials or a low cost alternatives.
  5. Thanks Stuart. I want to shot the character holding the phone and the source of light would be the phone.
  6. Thanks for the detailed explanation. Stuart, Are you discussing about Rosco litepad in the following link? http://us.rosco.com/en/product/litepad-ho90 There is one light with dimension 3" x 6" would work here. But I think Cineo Matchbox is bigger than a smartphone. Rosco litepad 3" x 6", Aputure M9 are great lights when using the front panel of smartphone phone as the scene light. But for using the smartphone torchlight(back side light of smartphone), any alternatives are available?
  7. Hi, I have seen in some films characters are using mobile phone light in the dark scene for searching and all. That is the only available light in the scene. Is there any special powerful lights available which give good exposure to replace the mobilephone lights? I think those lights are fitted into to mobile phone covering for cheating. Please share your inputs.
  8. While mixing warm tubes with cool tubes in a 4x4 Kino, does the order of warm and cool makes any difference? I am numbering the tubes 1,2,3,4 from top to bottom in horizontal position. Case1 I am mixing 1 warm tube with 3 cool 1-cool, 2-warm, 3-cool, 4-cool preferable? or warm at either 1 or 4 position? Case-2 I am mixing 2 warm tubes with 2 cool 1-cool, 2-warm, 3-warm, 4-cool preferable? or warm at 1 and 4 positions? Please share your suggestions.
  9. Thank you very much Mark and David. Whats is a Garware and Gateway?
  10. Hi, I was assisting a cinematographer. I have seen lighting assistants inserting 'cutted' diffusion filters(two numbers) into the scrim holder of a Tungsten Junior. Filters are of the same size of the lights front opening. I could see 'Garware' is printed on the side of the diffusion role. From my understanding from this forum, there won't be a softness to the light in the above setup because diffusion filter is of the same size of the light's opening, but there will be a decrease in the intensity. Is my observations are correct? Whats is a Garware? Also he used Garware taped in the bandoor of 4 bank(4') Kinoflo. Apart of changing the 4 tubes into one source and decreasing the intensity, would there be any increase in softness of the light?
  11. >increase the distance between the hard source and the subject David, how would mirror increase the distance between hard source and the subject? My understanding was mirror would become the new virtual source.
  12. > window gets heavier as objects get farther in the background, to the point where you just see fuzzy, blobby shapes. What is the meaning of 'Objects gets farther' ? 1. object is farther from camera or 2. objects farther from Hampshire diffusion gelled windows but in both cases objects in-front of the window while framing?
  13. Hi David, Just a question. > The trouble with the diffusion on the glass is that anything distant from the windows is more or less erased, What is the meaning of 'windows is more or less erased'?
  14. Hi, https://britishcinematographer.co.uk/gavin-finney-bsc-wolf-hall/ In the 2nd picture given in the above link Cinematographer Gavin Finney is using a Dolly. What is the name of this Dolly? How it is different from the normal track dolly? Is the regular track dolly not used in shooting nowadays? -Mathew Collins.
  15. Thank you. Still not able to follow the image 'F' formation (bottom) in the ground glass.
  16. In the following pic, which side is the viewfinder located, left/ right side? or from which side I have to view the final 'F' thru viewfinder? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SLR_Pentaprism.svg I understand that 1. Inverted image is formed by the lens. 2. Inverted image is reflected in the mirror. 3. ' F' formed in the ground glass from the image in the mirror 4. Corrected image is visible while looking thru viewfinder. Is there any side changes( left to right, right to left) happening during these steps?
  17. >The big "F" at the base of the pentaprism isn't a formed image, it's the incoming image and you follow the light rays to the image coming out the other end. My question is about the 'F' at the base. But I am not able imagine how the 'F' is ended up in this position. Would the inverted image of 'F' formed by the lens, and reflected thru mirror end up like this?
  18. Hi, I am not sure this question is qualified in this forum. This is a question about roof pentaprism. I have found two pictures for the image formed by the prism. 1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Roof_pentaprism_example.jpg 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SLR_Pentaprism.svg About Picture 1 -------------------- I could match the 'F'(lower side) in the picture with image formed by the mirror. But is that top 'F' correct? About Picture 2 -------------------- I am not able to find how the image 'F' formed at the bottom of the prism? There are some links. http://photo.stackexchange.com/questions/80067/how-many-times-is-the-image-inverted-inside-a-dslr-camera http://photo.stackexchange.com/questions/80085/mirror-vs-lens-do-either-or-both-invert-the-image?noredirect=1&lq=1 Could some one explain this? Just confused about the working of pentaprism. -Mathew
