There are some production stills on ebay under Sergio Leone that show Once upon a time including up to three Arric 2C's and a mix of Ang zooms, and primes. There is also a still with the director and the inimitable Claudia Cardinale at a table. He has a directors finder around his neck, but I couldn't make the lens in his hand. Looks like a Canon 25-120 or maybe a Cooke. The cranes on set look like early Intermeccanica's.
Revisit the movie and check out the tracking shots. Pretty impressive moves.
The ancient equipment was not an impediment to telling the story.

If the optics were that prehistoric then they just nailed some of the pulls on those shots.

I would have thought a Arri 2c , Prime Cookes , Zooms , Angenieux 10-1 !! that was about the choice then !!Maybe Super Baltars? Supposedly there are books on the film out there, but I'm not sure if they would include the gear used. Maybe a production still or three are in the books. Anyone know.
Anyone considering Techniscope should check out the DVD release and the closeups in the pivotal duel near the end, and later on Bronson, ( the lighting on Claudia Cardinale's closeups are soft). With modern stocks one would hope to do even better.

Anyone here know what camera and lenses were used on ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST? There are some interesting crane shots as well as push (zooms?) to extreme closeups.
This movie would seem to be one of the high technical water marks for a Techniscope ( as opposed to underfunded horror films), so it would be of interest to know what was used and how it was used and lighted for.
Anyone?

Anyone have any insights into the production of this classic, including which camera and lenses were used for origination in Techniscope. Also, any insight into the use of push zooms for close-ups, crane tracking shots, and lighting for same. Thank you.

I'm trying to find out the build date of a rack-over Mitchell #740.
I vaguely remember that a camera-buff had collected a list of these numbers.
I tried googling and found out more than I need to know about WW2 Mitchell bombers serial
numbers!
Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

I haven't shot in the city in over five years. Has anything changed markedly vis a vis permits etc. ? Can students still run and gun as long as they don't impede traffic? Is Central Park still an option? If anyone knows the drill or has any recent experiences please advise. Thank you.

Our film co-op has come into possession of a Cinema Products XR-35 35mm movie camera in BNCR mount. As some of you may know these cameras were made using converted Mitchell NC movements. We are looking for anyone who can relate their practical experience using these cameras and any related maintenance issues, weak links, limitations, etc. We are also looking for manuals, schematics, accessories, groundglasses, etc. Can the cameras be made quiet enought to do sound recording? Can a PL conversion be done without hitting the mirror shutter? Is a video tap practical? I believe Bob Auguste did the electronics for these cameras. Does anyone have his contact information? Any help would be appreciated.
