You can't buy an FX9. So cross that off the list.  Been backordered forever.  Maybe in late August. Unless you find a used one from an owner looking to upgrade they are hard to get.  The chip shortage has really hurt Sony.

You also cannot buy a FX6. B&H just quit taking orders or reservations on them. I think we need to be looking forward to Sony's replacement / updated cameras for both the FX9 and FX6.

Like the OP, I have also been looking to "take the next step". I looked really really hard at the Red V-Raptor but felt like I needed to step up to either the Sony Venice or Arri Alexa Mini LF camera. And then the Arri 35 was released.

  2. Thanks for the thoughts so far David and M Joel. Right now I am planning on keeping the screen close to 40 IRE and the talent close to 60 IRE. I have done some test shots and think I am managing the green screen spill. However they have not yet picked a background so I really cannot color correct everything perfectly yet.

Right now I am testing at 5.6 aputure with 400 ISO. However once I get this dialed in I'll need to redo it all because I will be placing a 70/30 teleprompter glass in front of the lens. I THINK that will take 1 to 1 1/2 stops away, so I'll have to adjust for that. I actually have no idea how to measure the amount of light stops the glass will take away. Does anyone know how that is done?

  3. I did a search but cannot find the answer, hoping someone can help me out.

I am shooting on a green screen for my first time and have been doing some testing. For this spot I am very limited in space, talent will be about 4 1/2 feet away from the screen. It's waist up, 2 camera angles, and not a lot of moving around. My cameras will both be Blackmagic 6K cameras with prime lenses on them.

My question is...what shutter angle should I use?  I have looked in numerous places and the only answer I can find, in one space,  is move my 180 degree shutter angle down to 90 degrees. This will get rid of the motion blur and I can put that back in during post, if needed.

What shutter angle should I be using and does it vary with any variables?

    Thanks all!

  4. I keep waiting, more like hoping, that they will come out and allow the EasyRig MiniMax to be upgraded just a little bit more than it is. I have it and I am also going to have to buy the EasyRig Vario with STABIL and I just cannot understand why one costs $1300 and the other will cost $7,000, with nothing really in the middle. Unless you go with a cheap Chinese knockoff, or a ReadyRig.

What specific filters are you looking at?

I’ve generally found that the same filter brand/model to be more expensive for 138mm. For example, a Schneider Circular Tru-Pol is $391/4x5.65 and $423/138mm at B&H. Not surprising, as there’s more glass in a 138mm filter as well as a metal frame.

But that doesn’t take into account overstock and discontinued item deals. There’s no way a new 138mm filter would be half the cost of 4x5.65 unless there were some special circumstances. I’d just make sure that you’re not getting an older version of the filter or something.

In looking at the ONE tray it looks like I can, in the space of one stage, add a circular 138mm ND filter instead of a 4 x 5.65 ND filter. The reason I am looking at this is because the price of a 138mm Tiffen ND filter is approx. $300.00 but that same filter at 4 x 5.65 is just over $500.00. Buy 3 of these and the ONE tray has paid for itself.

However Joshua above stated some really great reasons for not using circular filters and I also talked with Scott Balkum and he stated much the same thing.

I think I will just bite the bullet and get the 4 x 5.65 Tokina Cinema IRND filters I have been looking at.

  6. I am looking at the ONE Tray by Bright Tangerine ( https://youtu.be/OiduOxbE-MY) and need a bit of education concerning filter sizes. As I have no filters at all I can easily go in any direction, but I want to make sure I am heading in the right direction. Is there a danger or difference in using a 138mm round filter size compared to using the 4 x 5.65 filter size. If it makes a difference my Matte box is the Bright Tangerine Misfit Kick.

    Thanks for any thoughts.
