  1. Hey everyone! I'm shooting some exterior shots for this student project this week on old 7245 stock. It's about 5-6 years old. Now, I have no time to clip test but I'm thinking that because the 45 has such low grain in the first place the grain might not be that bad (i'm not sure about fogging though) I've been wondering about how I can compensate...I was thinking of overexposing by 2/3 of a stop and rate the film at EI 32. I would rate it more and pull process but the school is paying for processing and they won't pay for special processing. I wanted to know what else I can do to compensate for any aging problems. Also, I want to know how this 2/3 overexposure would affect the image with normal processing. I'm getting a best light telecine transfer; no film print... Please let me know your opinions
  2. Hello All! ?uestion: Does anyone know how I can request for a demo reel of the latest stocks from kodak? I've gotten the Fuji demo but it seems like I can't request one from the Kodak site... should I call?...is getting one of these demos possible?
  3. Thanks guys!!! I thought you would just add the values together, but i was starting to get confused, but thanks for great replies! Annd audiris, wow i never even thoguht about that test, thanks alot! Richard
  4. Alright, I don't want to be hoodwinked...!!! I'm a film student in DC and im shooting a project this weekend...the director is really putting his confidence in me and I don't wanna mess anything up! I've reserved a set of 85 and ND filters from the school (shooting 7218 500T)...one of the filters is an 85+ND3 filter, now from research I know that the 85 filter cuts down 2/3 of a stop and an ND3 cuts 1 stop. So I concluded that using this combined filter, I would add these two factors together and get a 1 and 2/3 stop cut off. But the equipment guy at school told me that the 85+ND3 filter cuts down 1 stop of light (that the combined factors of the filter just added up to 1 stop) Now I just read on the kodak website that 85ND3 cuts down by 1 and 2/3...whew!!! So, I just wanna know from all you great DP's...how much light does this filter really cut? And also how would I calculate the factor by doubling up and using a seperate 85 and seperate ND filter on the lens?
  5. Hey everyone! I keep seeing posts where DP's mention rating their video camera at a certain ASA? Well what's the ASA rating on a DVX100 with a regular shutter at 48th-60th of a second, in 24p mode? And is there a way to change it?...(my guess is by changing the shutter speed?)
  6. Thank you everyone for the replies and the conversations based on the topic, it's helped me out a lot!!!! Richard
  7. I don't know if im gonna sound like a real doofus for asking this... But I've been having much debate with people about the average latidude of the recent color negative motion picture film stocks. So I'm asking anyone to confidently tell me: how many stops of underexposure will get me true black, and how many stops of overexposure will get me true white? I'm referring to the Kodak Vision and Vision2 stocks and the new Fuji stocks...but also is there a big difference in latitude when comparing the Vision stuff and the Fuji stuff (i know Fuji is supposedly softer and less contrasty, but does that mean it has more latitude) And also by the way, does anyone know of a link where I can get info on the upcoming Vision2 50D stock? I apologize for the rack of questions...
  8. If i remember correctly, the Fuji stock they shot with was the Super F250T 8552... I loved the film by the way
