  3. Hi everybody, I'm starting to do more wedding video work with the 5DMKII. I don't want to use much slow motion, if any, but I'm sure the need will arise at some point. Has anybody been able to slow down the footage of the 5DMKII and get acceptable results? If so, what program are you using? Also, does it have anything to do with the shutter speed of the footage I'm trying to slow down? Thanks for your help!

  4. I currently have a handheld Glidecam that I use with my Sony VX2100, but I'm considering renting a vest/arm system to use with my bigger 15-pound camera on an upcoming project....Steadicam or Glidecam, it doesn't really matter to me, unless you can give me reasons why I might want one over the other. It will probably come down to price and location. I'm in San Diego and would like to find a place either in San Diego or at least So. Cal. Thanks in advance!

  5. Hi everybody. I was just wondering if you knew of a place in Southern California that rents a Brevis35. By the way, I'm in San Diego. I just sent over an email to Absolute Rentals (referred to me by Cinevate), but there's got to be more than one place, right? Also, any ideas on what the rental rates are? I've been dying to try one out for a while now. Thanks!

  6. i got to do that recently for Desert Of Blood. Although I didn't help on set or anything (i wanted to stay out of the way of the pro's) I did take some cool behind the scenes photos and did a lot of observing of the whole filmmaking process. My eyes were opened greatly in terms of what goes on and I'm very thankful that the director Don Henry allowed me to hang out for the day.

  7. I got to test out an HD100 today and I must say, I really liked it. A little front-heavy, but of course, the Anton Bauer adaptor will eliminate that problem. I though the focus assist feature was very cool. During regular focusing, the focus ring seemed to be almost too smooth, meaning, when I focused I had a tendency to go too far. I think that's just because I'm used to the Canon lens on my current Panasonic AG-DVC200. A little bit more time on the HD100 would get me used to the Fujinon lens in a jiffy. I was really happy with the placement of the controls, and like Benji Bakshi said, it works and feels like a full size camera - only much lighter.

One question since I'm new to HDV that maybe one of you can answer, I took a MiniDV tape with me to the dealer and shot some footage outside and in the office. I made sure to switch the mode to DV instead of HDV. The rep told me I could then take that MiniDV tape containing DV footage and load it into my Premiere Pro 1.5 using my Sony DSR-11 deck without any problems. Well, when I went to view it on that deck, it just gave me a gray screen, although the timecode was still running. Any ideas?

  8. thanks for your response, mark. I'm not actually shooting anything with the HDV stuff yet, but I'm looking into the JVC HD-110. I figure I should start finding out what I need to know now before I get everything. Another videographer I met who is doing wedding work using the Sonv HDV cam said he uses a program called Twixtor that he applies to his slow-motion stuff. Here's a link to his video sample page: http://www.hdbride.com/videos.html and assuming he used Twixtor on these, I'd say it looks pretty good. Anyway, thanks again.

  9. Well, I'm just starting to learn the world of HDV and I'm hoping somebody can give me some good feedback. I've been using DV for several years now doing mostly weddings, which means I use a lot of slow-motion. My typical procedure while editing in Premiere Pro 1.5 is to just right-click, speed/duration, adjust it to 50% and tada...buttery smooth slow-motion. Of course, this is when the original footage is at 29.97fps. Is it just as simple to slow down in post using HDV and get smooth results or is shooting at 24p going to cause some problems when it comes to slow-motion? Hopefully somebody using Premiere Pro can help me out. Like I said, I don't know much about all the HDV stuff yet, although I just purchased the 2nd Edition of HDV: What You Need To Know, which is supposed to be a pretty good start. Thanks for anybody's help!
