    I don't really know where to post this, if this is the wrong place please tell me!

    I'm new in this world of cameras.

    What's the real difference between 24p video and 24p film? I'm reffering to the cine look.

    I heard if you want to shot 24p digital with your camera (e.g with AG-DVX100) still won't look like film.

    I didn't find a complete explanation for that.

    The motion of a movie shot in digital (24p) looks to be a little faster. Seems to have more "frames" than 24 for a newbie like me. A movie shot in 24p (digital) looks more realistic and faster than a film one. All motion look different.

    umm well ya it won't look like film, the look will be the exact same as video, which is not film. But the motion should feel like film. I think the only difference is that with video, its always being watched on a 60hz screen, which never does the best job showing 24fps, wheras film is shown on a projector which actually projects 24 frames per second on a screen. Thats probably the differences your finding in the motion, but i bet if your transferred 24p video to film properly and projected it, it would look the same

  2. umm just a question, i was hoping to rent the HDRFX1 over here in Canada, will it still have the option to shoot with Cineframe25 or what your all calling it?

     

    one of the reasons i was going to rent this camera was because of the filmlook modes that came with it, but if these cameras are only NTSC and don't work well with the Cineframe (which would be 24p) thats a dissapointment.

     

    if they do give you the option for PAL and NTSC, would it be difficult authoring a DVD from my film if it's at 50i /25p...do most DVD players in North America play that?

    it was more the way digital captures the images, ie the harsh look, colours, and most importantly DEPTH OF FIELD, that i don't like about digital.

     

    the good thing abot digital is that is captures exactly what you see. So if i can should all my footage in film, as long as it looks decent on a screen, the digital reproduction should work fine to recapture the film look.

     

     

    i was more asking about quality, wondering if anyone had tried this, and discovered it to be 'workable'

  4. I have become really fed up with the crappy looking image of DV, and want to get myself a 16mm film movie camera.

     

    i woud never be able to get my film developed in a lab, so in order to use 16mm, i will need a way to convert the film to digital (for editing) at home by myself.

     

     

    i wanted to purchase a 16MM Projector, and just play though my footage on a screen, and then record the image using my DV camcorder (perhaps soon an HD consumer camcorder) and then edit that way.

     

    is this idea at all workable, or is it something that many have tried, and just won't work.

     

    the projector id like to buy on ebay is going in 30 hours, so any soon replies would be appeciated.

  5. I would like to start shooting in 16mm format instead of Digital Video.

     

     

    Could i buy a 16mm Movie Camera + projector, shoot my movie, and then playback the footage on a screen, and tape it using a MiniDV Camera or an HD Camera?

     

    Would i be stupid to go buy a camera and projector to do this, would the quality be to bad?

  6. wow very impressive

     

    how long have you been making films? it appears from this project that you do have some experience.

     

    from what you had to work with, editing was good.

     

     

     

     

    now for some constructive critisism...

     

    i would advise not to use the zoom quite as much. it's fine when your zoom in a the suspicious guy walking or whatever, giving the 'spy', 'being watched' feel, but i wouldn't use it as much other than for that reason.

     

    one problem that i would work on for your next script is trying to get more variety in the actual actions of the characters.

     

    it seemed in this film as if you were just watching various people hurry around various places, and although this is fine, too much of the same things take away from the seeing the film as 'a progressing story taking place' and more like random shots. when the girl went in the car and looked at those photographs, that was good. but you needed more of that, and less people walking are running around.

     

    the camera views were all very good, but they were all also basically the same. almost all of them were camera on tripod, with a medium range shot of the subject. get creative, i would have used the skaky camera effect numerous times, way more closeups, and views from different heights (ie all your camera views seemed to be from the same height, about 4 feet off the ground im thinking)

     

    your night shots were very well done, this is a very underrated aspect in film making. i'm not sure if you used any extra lighting or if it was all whatever was there, but most of your night shots looked really good

     

    overall, fairly professional, well planned and edited film. Again though, it was definitely missing variety and more interesting camera angles. This would eliminate any dullness that your movie had.

  7. here it is, the student made music video set to the Eagles rock-hit Hotel California. made over 6 months, with a crew of about 11 people. two cameras

     

    There's a real story behind this video, so if want to 'get it' you have to watch the whole thing.

  8. im shooting a video in a dark high school, in which one girl is always EXTREMELY bright, whatvever the background may be.

     

    I'm kinda thinking like the look on they had on Touched By an Angel, where the one angel was always unreaslisticly illuminated. The outline of her hair was really bright white, just made her stand out from everything, with this mystical look.

     

    Where can i positon different lights to get this effect on this one character.

  9. I've really into film making for couple of years now, and have always been doing projects here and there, some by myself, and others with a few friends.

     

    Now i've come across a film festival going on in my school board, and i've gathered up a crew to make a music video as professional as possible.

     

    MY CREW:

    -7 Actors

    -Director of Photography

    -Director

    -2 Producers

     

    I've choose music video so there would be no sound in this project, because this adds an entire new dimension to the filming process, and makes it much more difficult to keep professional.

     

    I have written a script for this music video (Hotel California) that is almost entirely set in an empty high school at night. I did this because i know I can make my images look so much better when they can be entirely artificial light controlled. I have a band that will be playing on the gym stage, each member lit up with blue spotlights.

     

    EQUIPMENT

    -I have been able to find myself 3 miniDV camera (consumer) plus a fourth lower grade camera for behind the scenes shots.

    -I have access to most objects in an entire school, and therefore using overhead projector carts on hard floors, as camera dollies.

    -School has 15-feet scafolding on wheels.

    -Three fog machines for cool look behind band on stage

    -Drama Department theatre lights and portable stands

    -Set of 500W x 2 constuction lights

     

     

    WHAT I"M SHOOTING

    -Some of my video will just be cool shots of the band playing Hotel California. They are supposed to be a 'ghost' band, so each member needs to be a bright blue colour. I will be shooting the band both in the library and on the gym stage.

     

    -I also am shooting a more romantic scene in the middle of the gym. A fancy table with flowers, wine glasses...etc and a couple on a date, with the rest of the gym dark. I would like to have them lit up really well, not sure how to do this yet.

     

    -Shots of someone walking through empty dark hallways. This will be probably be a camera following character on dolly, behind and in front. I'm going to need some kind of 'moonlight' on this character, plus i want to just be able to make out the lockers in the hallway.

     

     

     

     

    So this is it. I have an entire school at use for an entire night, and a crew of about 10 people, with 3 camera. I have to make something professional, but I'm already panicking about Wednesday and how so many things could go wrong.

     

    I would just love some suggestions/what-not-to-dos/lighitng advice.... to make the best final product i can with what i have. thanks

  10. I don't have a HD Camera or anything, or a HD TV or Computer, but I was curious about a few things.

     

    If you played back HD footage on a regular computer with NO HD monitor, would the footage look the exact same as if it was taped with a regular MiniDV camera.

     

    What what i've heard, isn't HD just bigger frames captured that regular video, therefore it should look much clearer than MiniDV on any computer.

     

     

     

    Also, how far are we from a little Palm Sized Camera with an 80 gig hardrive, that captures each frame the size of a 4 megapixel camera would with a still shot.

     

    If we did this, you would have brilliantly clear video, clearer than film, and you'd be able to get like 20 minutes of this footage on an 80 gig hardrive. is this going to be reality soon.????

     

     

     

    Oh and one more question, what kind of media do High Def cameras record too? It's not MiniDV is it? Any camera i've seen in flyers don't show a hardrive size, but they don't say miniDV either.
