  1. what I've got is a KEM 6.35 with the Cinemascope head that capible of working on Cinamascope, widescreen and academy standard. It's a 6 plate machine in almost perfect condition and really is a thing of beauty. I must admit that I'm surprised, being from the video world and now knowing that much about film yet, that your telling me this isn't the way it's done anymore, that it's "old school" . I know "The Producers" was cut on a machine exactly like mine and KEM is still selling a model that looks identical. How are they doing it now? Is it transfered to video, cut on a computer, then what? Don't you still have to cut and assemble the actual film negative using the video as your guide to get the answer print? At this point I am very low budget as well so I'll have to do a lot of things on my own. I also read that using reveral stock is the way to go when learning to edit for various reasons. Has anyone else heard that? Please forgive my ignorance but I'm a rookie at this so please feel free to enlighten me. Here are some pics.

  2. Here's a copy of an email I sent to the Konvas listgroup. Any help anyone can give would be most appreciated.

    Hello all,

Just got my Konvas 2m and an OPF-18 anamorphic lens today in the mail. Both seemed to be in good shape. Unfortunately, I was fooling around with the zoom and the zoom ring of the lens made a dull "pook" sound, and now the zoom ring doesn't move the front elements. Something inside has popped loose. It seemed to be working perfectly prior to this.

Anyone have any ideas? Are there anyplaces in Texas I could take this to be looked at? I'm in the Austin area.

I'd open up the lens myself if need be...but I'd really rather do such in the presence of a professional.

    Only slightly worried....but worried,

    Ilya Stone

I'm in El Paso and I feel your pain. You could try Slow Motion Inc in L.A. I know he works on the cameras. I'm not sure if he does lenses but maybe he can recomend someone if not.

  3. I suppose this is a good place to ask my question, can either the 1m or 2m use 1000ft mags, and if so where can I buy them?

The short answer is no.The largest mag ever built for the Konvas was 500ft and those are, from what I understand, vertually nonexistant. There's one guy who, on the smart groups konvas forum, said he can fabricate a 1200 ft mag with a doner 400 mag and a take up motor from a kinor but I haven't heard of anyone taking him taking him up on the offer. It may be possible but probably not worth it.

  4. Is anyone aware of a forum like this one, geared to editing 35mm film, or any sites on the subject. I've been seaching and the landscape looks pretty bare. There are a few digital forums but even those are few and non seem to have links to film editing. I recently acquired an editing machine and want to learn how to use the damn thing, but here in El Paso there are no facilities for film that I'm aware of so I guess i'm going to be self taught and although books are great it's nice to be able to talk to expirenced people for advice. Thanks-Steve
